  1. ESF University Fair 2013 Wednesday 23 January, Island School 1:30pm-3:00pm

  2. Before the Fair … IDENTIFY: The country(ies) you are considering. Are you aware of the differences in character of the education systems in each country? For example: UK = 3 year degrees vsHK & North America = 4 year degrees

  3. Before the Fair … If you already know which course(s) you are interested in … Use the Fair to identify the range of universities to match your expected achievements (e.g. predicted IB score in October 2013) and areas of interest (e.g. I plan to practise vet science/ Law/medicine in Australia/Canada/HK/UK/ USA).

  4. Before the Fair … If you are unsure about what you wish to study, use the Fair to ask universities what courses could be suitable for you. TIP: Having ready on an A4 sheet, your IGCSE results and the list of subjects you’re studying in the ID or IB programme allows you to quickly show the reps your academic profile.

  5. During the Fair … Conversations with unireps … You may already have questions specific to your research … so ask them! You might not have a clue as to what questions to ask … so refer to a list of possible questions in the Fair booklet to get you started. TIP: Get the email contact of the rep you spoke with as you may need to get in touch with them at a later time.

  6. After the Fair … If you already know which course(s) you are interested in … As a follow up action point, create your own university league table – don’t just rely on the commercial ones (too generic). It’s more accurate to have your personal league table, custom made for YOURrequirements and expectations.

  7. After the Fair …

  8. After the Fair … If you had been unsureabout what you wish to study … As a follow up action point from the conversations you have at the Fair, speak with Faculty and Careers staff at school. Also ask for the opinions of others (family, friends, etc.) regarding your suitability for a particular course or study pathway.

What to bring … • Yourself – COMPULSORY attendance • The Fair booklet (handed out today; there won’t be spare copies on the day) • The A4 sheet with your academic profile (IGCSE results and ID/IB subjects) • Pen and note pad • The research that you’ve done so far • Bring a parent if they wish to come (but ask them to use public transport)
