  2. GOD HAD FINISHED SPEAKING The Scriptures teach that God had long ago finished speaking. Jude 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Galatians 1:6-9

  3. The Devil Has Camouflage God warns today through his word of similar dangers. Matthew 7:15-20; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; 1 John 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; Acts 17:11; Matthew 10:34-39

  4. Feelings Deceive Isaac believed he was blessing Esau. Genesis 27:1-38 Jacob believed that his son, Joseph, had been killed by a wild animal. Genesis 37:1-36; Genesis 45:25 Saul of Tarsus persecuted the early disciples in “all good conscience” Acts 23:1; Acts 26:9; Acts 9:1-8; 1 Timothy 1:12-16 Therefore, we cannot trust our own mind and heart to bring us to the Lord. Jeremiah 17:9; Proverbs 28:26; Proverbs 16:25; John 8:31-32; 1 John 5:2-3

  5. Believing A Lie Condemns Old prophet lied to him. 1 Kings 13:18 Young prophet believed a lie and was held accountable. 1 Kings 13:21-22; cf. Mt. 15:13-14; Matthew 7:21-23 Fear Him who has power to cast our souls into hell. Luke 12:2-5

  6. Partial Obedience Is Not Enough Nadab and Abihu. Leviticus 10:1-5 Uzzah. 2 Samuel 6:3-9; 1 Chronicles 15:2,12-15; Numbers 4:5-6, 15 Achan. Joshua 7:1-26 King Uzziah. 2 Chronicles 26:16ff Ananias and Sapphira. Acts 5:1-11 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all” James 2:10

  7. Conclusion The prophet … a. Showed great courage before the king, who was initially angered by the message. b. Was a good man. c. Was willing to leave his country and carry God’s message d. Initially showed courage by rejecting the request of the old prophet, so he did not let peer pressure persuade him.

  8. Conclusion • Ultimately failed to recognize some very important facts… • God had finished speaking • The Devil has camouflage • Feelings deceive • Believing a lie condemns • Partial obedience is not enough
