  2. TestBed Purpose • To provide NRENs and DANTE with a place to test OS and protocol features - but not for load testing • The TestBed will be operated separately from the production backbone - although the traffic will flow over GÉANT

  3. TestBed for GÉANT • Six GÉANT PoPs involved • Each PoP will have a router and a workstation • The workstation will run FreeBSD - other software can be installed by the NOC • Various routers will be used (3xM20, 2x7507, 1x12008) • TestBed user has freedom to configure routers

  4. Three M20s (Juniper) Each has a Geth to connect to the workstation Two have Tunnel PICs Each has an STM-1 4-port PIC One 12008 (Cisco) G-Enet port to connect to the workstation Four STM-1 ports TestBed Routers

  5. Two 7507s (Cisco) Each has G-Enet port to connect to the workstation Each has 2 or more STM-1 ports using VIP2-50s and one VIP6-80 Each Cisco router was re-cycled from New York PoP with some upgrades TestBed Routers (cont)

  6. Each TestBed router connected to its PoP host router by two or more STM-1 ports A Layer 2 VPN created over GÉANT between the TestBed routers, using LSPs TestBed Connectivity

  7. TestBed Logical Topology

  8. TestBed and GÉANT - Topology

  9. TestBed - PoP Layout

  10. Requests for the TestBed will need to be scheduled GÉANT NOC will prepare the TestBed by restoring it to a known configuration Access to TestBed via GÉANT router M20: via fxp0 7508: via fast ethernet 12008: via fast ethernet PC: via fast ethernet Operational Considerations
