MotionReduced Dues Joint Membership Programs with AIChE, ASCE, ASME, SAE, and IEEE Collegiate and Professional • No less than 80% of current dues for that category of membership • Only applied to full dues for professionals and collegiate members • Can only apply for joint membership with one organizations * Inclusion of associates?

MotionCollegiate to Career (C2C) membership program • Two years of dues in one single payment covering undergraduate, graduate, and first year of professional membership • Cannot be combined with any other joint membership or membership discounts • Effective FY10 * SWE revenue/member decreases

MotionTiered dues for international members • SWE board of directors develop tiered dues for international collegiate and professional members according to UN categorization of countries • World Bank list of economies • Low income  50% discount • Lower middle income  25% discount • % discount NOT to be combined with any other reduced dues programs • Assessed annually • Effective July 1 2009 * Less income for SWE/international member

  5. Amendment 0800 • Authorization for Editorial Changes • Bylaws Committee authorized to correct article/section designations, punctuation, and cross-references • Collaboration with the Society Secretary and Parliamentarian * Ensure changes made are accurate and needed

  6. Amendment 0802 • Remove COR authority to establish subsidiary corporations • Under the new financial laws SWE is not capable of this • When we were capable SWE never used this capability

  7. Amendment 0805 • Election of Special Director by Incoming Board • Before July 1 • Serve 1 year • After July 1 • Serve remainder of fiscal year and may be elected to only one additional consecutive term • Allows for transitioning time • No changes to term

  8. Amendment 0812 • Add deputy director of region as nonvoting member of COR • Deputy Director of Regions shall perform duties of Director of Regions in absence or at request of Director of Regions therefore need to be informed of national communications

  9. Amendment 0822 • Inactive Sections • Language change • Replaces “council” with appropriate terms based upon adaption of other amendments • Ex. Council  Region Council

Amendment 0801 • Change speaker term of office to 2 years • Today the speaker is the only BOD member that serves a 1 year term other than the special director. • Elected by the voting members of the council • Change to Serves 2 fiscal years • Allows for consistency in COR • Consistent with other BOD office terms and allows for business continuity and stable information flow

Amendments 0803, 0804 • Remove COR required memberships on Finance and Audit Committees • Formed for purpose of checks and balances during CSR transition to COR • Today the positions are very difficult to fill • Don’t always have COR members with the right skill sets or interest • No longer necessary for COR checks and balances

Amendments 0806, 0807 • Membership criteria for Senior and Fellow grades • 0806 Senior Grade: must meet one of the criteria • Holds baccalaureate or advanced degree in engineering: change from 6 to 10 years • Engineering experience: change from 11 to 15 years • Still automatically transitions to member grade • 0807 Fellow Grade • SWE member who has been a Senior Grade member with significant and long-term contributions : change from 8 to 10 years • Still requires application process for upgrade and not guaranteed

Amendment 0810 • Create Educator Membership grade • K-12 educator who supports goals of the Society, but do NOT quality for any other membership grade • Must be sponsored by member of the council, professional section president, member at large president, or region governor • This is like affiliate members • Educators have all the rights of membership EXCEPT to serve on the council, board of directors, region governor, or to vote in the national organization

  15. MotionEstablish dues for Educator members to be equivalent to Collegiate Member dues ($20/year) • Current $100/year professional member dues out of reach of many K-12 teachers • Encourages them to remain active in SWE sections and provide valuable input

Amendment 0808 • Combining Associate and Affiliate Member Grade • Today Associates are: • Person that does not qualify for membership, but is engaged in work related to engineering or engineering training • Today Affiliates are: • Person that does not qualify for membership, but supports the societies goals • They must be sponsored by a COR Rep, Section Pres, or RG • If Adopted • Remove Affiliate grade combine with Associate • Require all new Associate members to be sponsored by a COR Rep, Section Pres, or RG • Retain all rights they have today • All rights except right to serve on COR, BOD, or RG and vote in National Elections • Impacts less than 250 members

Amendment 0809 • Granting Associate Members Voting Rights • We will only vote on this if 0808 passes • Today: • Associate members have all rights except right to serve on COR, BOD, or RG and vote in National Elections • If Adopted: • Associate members have all rights except the right to serve on COR, BOD, or RG • Will allow Associates to vote in the National Elections

  18. Amendment 0813 • Remove Region Governors as Non-voting Members of COR • Remove Region Governors as nonvoting members of COR • RGs are asking for this so they can focus on Region Business

Amendment 0821 • Add Region Council to SWE Bylaws • Current the Region Council is not part of the bylaws • Will be • 1 Professional Rep per 100 members per Professional Section, not to exceed 4 • 1 Collegiate Rep per 1,000 collegiate members, not to exceed 2 • 1 MAL Rep per 100 MALs, not to exceed 4

Amendment 0811 • Change Eligibility for SWE Leadership Positions • If Adopted: • Professional Members • change to eligible for all positions, remove president and president elect exception • Remove that current BOD members are except from above requirements (hold over from last bylaws change) • Remove reference to service as executive committee = BOD before 1985 and Region Director = RG (hold over from last name changes/restructure)

Amendment 0814 • Changes to COR Composition • Today • 1 Representative per 100 voting members, not to exceed 4 for each professional section • 1 Representative per 100 voting members, not to exceed 4 for each MAL region • 1 Representative per 100 voting members, not to exceed 4 for International Members • 1 Collegiate per 1,000 collegiate members, not to exceed 2 per Region • All serve 1 year terms

Amendment 0814 • Changes to COR Composition • If Adopted • Today’s Structure would be used to determine representation on the Region Council • 2 Professional Representatives per Region • Not from the same Section • Not on Region Council • 2 year staggered terms • 1 Collegiate Representative per Region • Only serves 1 year term • Not same as RCR • 2 International Representatives • 2 year staggered terms • Up to 2 Special Representatives nominated by the speaker • 1 year term • Majority rules in elections

Amendments 0815, 0816, 0817 • Only vote on these if 0814 passes • 0815 No Alternates to COR • Remove all language • 0816 Quorum • Change from majority of voting members to 25 of the 34 representatives • 0817 Vacancies • Add for Professionals to be filled by Election by Region Council for remainder of the term • Add for Collegiates to be filled by Election by Collegiate Section Presidents • Add for International Reps to be filled by International Cordinator for remainder of the term
