  1. The Curent Water Crisis

  2. We Need It • Water makes up: • more than 60 percent of the body • 70 percent of the brain • 80 percent of the blood • nearly 90 percent of the lungs • 75 percent of the average chicken and tree • 80 percent of a pinapple.

  3. Every living thing needs water to live — humans, who can go a month without food, die after just a week without their H2O — and every living thing contains it to a significant degree. Plants need water. Animals need water. Sponges need water. Fishes need water. Dirt needs water. We need water. Lakes need watr.

  4. Water Percentages • Of all water on earth, 97.5% is salty water, and of the remaining 2.5% fresh water, some 70% is frozen in the polar icecaps. The other 30% is mostly present as soil moisture or lies in underground aquifers. In the end, less than 1% of the world's fresh water (or abot 0.007% of all water on earth) is readily accessible for direct human uses. It is found in lakes, rivers, reservoirs and in underground sources shallow enough to be tapped at affordable cost. Evaporation and precipitetion make this water available on a sustainable basis.

  5. People are Thirsty • Thirst: • When people feel a need to drink

  6. Amount of Water Available Much of the approximately 110 000 cubic kilometers of presipitation that falls on the continents each year evaporates back into the atmosphere, or is absorbed by plants. About 42,700 cubic kilometers of water that falls back on earth flows through the world's rivers. Dividing the world's total river flow by its 1995 population gives an average of 7300 cubic meters of water per person per year, a drop of 37% per person since 2970 because of the growing world population.

  7. In a world of unprecedented wealth, almost 2 million children die each year for want of a glass of clean water and adequate sanitation. Millions of women and young girls are forced to spend hours collecting and carrying water, restricting their opportunities and their choices. And water-borne infectious diseases are holding back poverty reduction and economic growth in some of the worlds poorest countries.

  8. A Natural Resource • The same amount of water exists today on Earth as existed 3 billion years ago, and, thanks to the “water cycle” its the same water, moving unendingy from sea to clouds to rain to earth and back again. • In the 20th Century the world’s population tripled and the need for water increaded 6 times

  9. the Earth is covered by water Fully 97 percent of the Earths total water supply is the salt variety found in oceans and seas. As for the fresh 3%, most is stored in the 7 million cubic miles found frozen in glacers and ice caps. LEss than 0.007% of all the water on Earth is available to drink.

  10. Uses • The average american uses about 160 gallons of water a day at a cost of 27 cents. • Two-thirds of the water used in an average home is used in the bathroom, much of it consumed by the toilet which requires four to six gallons per flush. • The average person uses 2 gallons of water per day to brush his teeth. • A 10minute shower uses about 55 gallons of water. • Lawn watering accounts for at least 50 percent of a typical household’s water consumption. • Automatic dishwashers require approximately 9 to 12 gallons of water per load of dishes, compared with the 20 gallons required to do the same dishes by hand. • If every household in america had a faucet that dripped once each second, 928 million gallons of water a day would leak away. • Industry, too, likes its water, expending 39,000 gallons to manufacture the average domestic automobile and 300 million gallons to provide American newspapers with the newsprint they need for a single day.

  11. There isnt enough water. We have a water crisis. • When aquifers run out of water, crops are affected. • Some countries are already facing crop shortages. • Millions of people live on less than 3 gallons of water a day.

  12. Water and People • 33% of people lack access to sanitation and 20% dont have clean water, which forces people to move • Clearly everyone is thirsty and there are many needs for water.

  13. Think abot it! This is a topic you should explore deeper!
