  2. The Veil • The veil used in this chapter is called the “burqa”. A burqa also known as chadri or paranji is an enveloping outer garment worn by women in some Islamic traditions to cover their bodies in public.

  3. The Summary • Chapter begins by telling us about the 1979 a Revolution took place which was later called the “Islamic Revolution”. Then in 1980 it became mandatory to wear the veil at school. Marji, the main character, wasn’t very fond of wearing the veil. In 1980, with the new regime, all Bilingual schools were closed down because the government declared it was a symbol of capitalism.

  4. What Does The Regime Mean? • In politics, a regime is the form of government, the set of rules, cultural or social norms that regulate the operation of government and it’s interactions with society. It’s basically the time or period a person rules.

  5. What Does The Revolution Mean? • Aforcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of a new system. (often the Revolution )(in Marxism) the class struggle which is expected to lead to political change and the triumph of communism.

  6. Frame Analysis • This frame shows girls trying to understand the function and usage of the veil. They don’t know how to wear and why they wear it so they experiment doing different things.

  7. Frame Analysis • This frame shows conservative women and modern women protesting each other. While conservative women support the veil, modern women protest the new regime.
