  2. Who was Mother Joseph ? Mother Joseph Mother Joseph was important to Seattle because she started the first hospital in Seattle. She was named Esther Pariseau and born in Quebec, April 16, 1823 and died in 1902. She was also the daughter of a coach maker. She loved school and stayed at the school until she was 17 years old. Then, she left school to become a nun for the sisters of charity of Providence.

  3. The First Hospital Mother Joseph came to Seattle to build the first hospital. First, they bought land from J.J Moss for $ 5,000 August 2,1878 Sisters of Charity of Providence opened the first hospital on 5th avenue & Madison street & called it providence Hospital .The hospital was redesigned by Donald McKay. In 2000 it merged and started to do operations with Swedish Hospital.

  4. Why Was She important? Mother Joseph was important to Seattle because she made schools for Indian children at Tulalip ,Colville and Coeur d’Alene for children and orphans. She also made hospitals.
