  1. The Sin of Achan Joshua 7

  2. The Conquest of Jericho • A tremendous victory. • A sense of exhilaration and invincibility. • Verse 1 – “the sons of Israel acted unfaithfully…” • Ai’s small force routed Israel, and Joshua is perplexed. • V. 11 – Sin is responsible. • Heb. 2:2-3; 10:28-29. Same principle today. We can’t prosper if there’s sin in the camp.

  3. The Three Myths of Sin • “One Sin Won’t Hurt.” • James 2:10; Moses – Num. 20:7-13; Nadab and Abihu - Lev. 10; Uzzah – 2 Sam. 6:1ff; Ananias and Sapphira – Acts 5; Rich Young Ruler – Luke 18; and on and on. • Sin is a choice, and we usually don’t make that choice “once.”

  4. Myth Two • “It’s nobody’s business what I do.” • Do you think Israel thought this as they were running before Ai? • Romans 14:7-8. • How did Achan get all this “stuff” back to his tent? How many saw and said nothing? • I Cor. 5:6; Gal. 6:1

  5. Myth Three • “No one will know.” Hidden sin. • I don’t know if we really believe this or if we’re just trying to fool ourselves. • Numbers 32:23. compare Ex. 2. Moses knew. • Heb. 4:13; 2 Cor. 5:10.

  6. God Deals With Sin • Sin is condemned, but God wants to spare the sinner. • But it can’t be “hidden”. Must be dealt with in God’s prescribed manner. • Sacrifice, faith, obedience.
