  1. Frederic Remington The Life & Works of this American artist

  2. Frederick Remington, born October 4, 1861 in Canton, New York, is an American artist best known for his chronicles of the Ol' West. Remington was an illustrator, painter and later in life became a sculptor too. His preferred subjects were people - cowboys, cavalrymen and American Indians - and animals - horses and buffalo. Remington depicted his subjects just as they appeared, a style known as realism, and his works showed the drama and action of life in the American West. And while Remington enjoyed drawing from an early age he was a failed sheep farmer and failed saloon keeper before becoming a successful Western artist.

  3. In his sketches he portrayed the subject matter that most captivated his interests; horses, military and the western frontier. Remington was a man who loved the adventures of the outdoors; taking others with him on long trail rides, nature hikes, fishing and hunting trips. His work has and always will inspire this same love and appreciation in others, for the rustic life of the West and the great outdoors. I knew the wild riders and the vacant land were about to vanishforever and the more I considered the subject, the bigger the forever loomed. Without knowing how to do it, I began to record some facts around me, and the more I looked the more the panorama unfolded." ---  Frederic Remington

  4. TURN HIM LOOSE BILL

  5. Remington is considered to be America’s most popular nineteenth century Western artist. Sadly, in December 1909, at the apex of his career and the prime of his life Remington suddenly died from a ruptured appendix. ~THE END
