History of Halloween • In the 1800’s, during the Festival of Samhain, the Celtics believed the souls of the dead visit earth on October 31st. • In Europe, All Hallows Eve was the night before All Saints Day, the day all saints who did not have their own declared holiday were celebrated. • All Souls’ Day is when Christians would celebrate the death of those who were not saints. • In Mexico, El Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is celebrated in honor of loved ones who have died.
