  4. What does the IEP talk about? • Talks about your disability • What skills you need to learn • What you’ll do in school this year • Services your school will provide • Where your learning will take place

  5. Why do students with disabilities need an IEP? • It’s the law! • The IEP helps the school meet your special needs. • Helps you plan educational goals for yourself

  6. What is the purpose of an IEP? • To make sure that everyone you, your family , and school staff know what your educational program will be this year.

  7. Where is my IEP developed? • During your IEP meeting.

  8. Who comes to the IEP meeting? • You • Your parent (s) • At least one of your teachers • At least one of your special education teachers • Other people who know you, your strengths and needs very well

  9. How often is the IEP meeting held? • At least once a year • However, you, your parents, or the school can ask for more IEP meetings is necessary.

  10. How long does an IEP meeting last? • Approximately 30 minutes to an hour

  11. What should you do if you want to take part in your IEP? • Talk to your parents and/or teachers • Review last year’s IEP • Think about your strengths and needs in school • Think about and write your goals for this school year • Practice what you want to say at your meeting
