STEM Launching to Success The 3 C’s: Community, College, and Corporate Allan Hancock College Ashley Brackett, Siboney Guardado & Emily Smith This publication/event was developed with the support of a Hispanic Serving Institution STEM & Articulation program from the U.S. Department of Education.

  2. Being a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) qualifies us to apply to grants that other institutions may not qualify.

  3. How did Allan Hancock College qualify for a 4.3 million STEM grant through the U.S. Department of Education?

  4. Need to improve student enrollment, persistence, and completion.

  5. What is the urgency behind efforts to improve Hispanic students’ attainment in higher education?

  6. To address and increase the number of Hispanic STEM majors.

  7. What is Allan Hancock College’s absolute Priority #1 goal of this grant?

  8. Necessary resources for student success.

  9. What are organized study groups and tutoring?

  11. What is the most critical component to the success of the Allan Hancock College STEM program?

  12. Sparking an interest in STEM, helping to increase skills and knowledge base to encourage high school seniors to select Allan Hancock College as their 1st choice.

  14. Annual events such as Friday Night Science and Balloon Festival.

  22. Establish seamless transition and remove identified institutional obstacles on transfer pathways between high schools and Allan Hancock College and between Allan Hancock College and universities (Absolute Priority #2).

  28. STEM Career Mentor Program, organized “Tools for Success” workshop for newly admitted AHC transfer students attending Cal Poly, SLO and planned industry trips each semester.
