  1. SABOT Standardized Auxiliary Boat Operations Training Ninth District - Eastern Region COMO. Lew Wargo, Sr. DSO-OP/CQEC 15 April 2014 MENTORING

  2. REFERENCES • Auxiliary Boat Crew Training Manual, COMDTINST M 16794.51(series)

  3. CURRENCY REQUIREMENTS Each participating member must meet certain requirements for their level of qualification including: • Annual underway hours • Annual TCT Workshop The qualification of members that do not meet the above will loose their certification and be placed into a REYR or REWRK category until these requirements are met.

  4. CURRENCY REQUIREMENTS • Every three (3) years a member must satisfactorily complete a QE check ride. • Every five (5) calendar years each member must complete a four hour TCT course. • Coxswains must also satisfactorily pass an “Open-book NAV RULE” exam on or before the five (5) year anniversary of their last exam.

  5. CURRENCYREQUIREMENTS • A member that falls into the REYR or REWRK category does not automatically go back to their original qualification upon satisfying their missing requirements. The OTO and DSO-IS must be notified in writing documenting the correction so that the AUXDATA system may be brought up to date. • The Auxiliary Order Management System (AOMS) checks each members qualification before processing a patrol order.

  6. GENERAL If a participating member develops a condition that prevents them from performing any of the required tasks, they are to report this condition via the chain of leadership to the OTO. When the condition is corrected, a report should also be sent via the chain of leadership to the OTO. This may require a doctor’s letter for an extended serious problem.

  7. CREW CURRENCY • Must complete 12 hours underway as a crewperson on an ordered patrol. This is an important reason to be sure that all hours are reported into the AUXDATA system. • Every three years the member must satisfactorily complete a check ride with a Qualification Examiner (QE) from their district. Check rides should be scheduled through the Area QE Coordinator.

  8. COXSWAIN CURRENCY Must complete a minimum of 12 hours underway annually as a crewmember or coxswain. Every three years they must satisfactorily complete a QE check ride with QE from their district. Check rides should be scheduled through the Area QE Coordinator. Every five years must pass an open book, on-line NAV RULES exam before the 5 year anniversary of their last exam.

  9. QUALIFICATION EXAMINERS • QEs must meet all of the requirements of a coxswain and in addition they must complete a four hour (4) TCT course every two calendar years. • QEs must be re-appointed every two years by their OTO. • QEs are encouraged to serve as mentors, however, they should not give the check ride to the member they are mentoring without a waiver from their OTO.

  10. PWO CURRENCY • All Personal Watercraft Operators must complete the annual one (1) hour TCT workshop. • They must also complete a minimum of 12 hours underway as a PWO under orders. • All PWOs must pass a QE check ride every 3 years. • All PWOs must pass an “Open-book NAV RULES” exam before the 5 year anniversary of their last exam.

  11. PWO CURRENCY • If the PWO is also qualified as a coxswain they must complete a minimum of 6 hours underway as a PWO and 12 as a crew or coxswain. • If the PWO is qualified as crew and a PWO they must complete a minimum of 12 hours underway as a PWO and 6 hours as crew.

  12. DOWNGRADES Members may request a downgrade from coxswain to crew by sending a letter to the OTO. Members that do down-grade must still meet all the currency requirements for the lower level of qualification, including a QE Check Ride, 12 hours underway each year and the TCT requirements for the annual workshop and the four hour TCT every five years.
