NumbertheStars, otro acercamiento al Holocausto Fundamentos • “NumbertheStars”, tiene como premisa descubrir más acerca del Holocausto, y especialmente acerca de la Resistencia Danesa durante este período. • Los estudiantes leerán, analizarán y resumirán textos relacionados con los antecedentes, el desarrollo y los resultados de la guerra, enfocándose en el movimiento de resistencia en Dinamarca. • Leerán el libro “NumbertheStars” y reflexionarán (de forma oral y escrita) acerca de varios pasajes del libro en aras de conocer más acerca del Holocausto, y desarrollar un nivel más elevado de pensamiento crítico en la segunda lengua.

NumbertheStars, byLoisLowry • Rationale: • NumbertheStars, anotherapproachtotheHolocaust, aims at uncover more informationabouttheHolocaust, especiallyabouttheDanishresistancemovementduringthisperiod. • Studentswillread,analyze and synthesizetexts in Englishrelatedtothethepreview, during-the-war, and aftermath; focusingontheresistancemovement in Denmark. • In addition, theywillreadthebook “NumbertheStars”, and reflectspokenly and writtenlyaboutvariouspassagesin ordertodevelop more awarenessabouttheHolocaust and a higherlevel of criticalthinking in the target language.

Students’works • “The Danish resistance movement, assisted by many ordinary citizens, coordinated the flight of some 7,200 Jews to safety in nearby neutral Sweden. • The most important year was 1943 because was when the German police began searching for and arresting Jews on the night of October 1, the Danish police refused to cooperate”. • Theholacaustwas a terrible period of humanhistory, alsotake place tothesecondworldwar, in my opinionwas a terrible humanact and thinkingbecausehowyou can thinkto do somethinglikekill 6 millionpeople.

Students’works • I thinktheholocaustwastheworstthingthathappened in the XX century, but i alsothinkitwasneededforthehumanitytomakeusseewhatwe can do toourselves. • In June 1944, succumbing to public pressure following the deportation of about 470 Jews from Denmark to Theresienstadt, the Germans permitted two delegates from the International Red Cross and one from the Danish Red Cross to visit the camp-ghetto.

Fundamentos • Este proyecto tiene como objetivo brindar a los estudiantes la posibilidad de intercambiar experiencias con estudiantes en otro país (Israel) que también desarrollan un proyecto acerca del Holocausto. • Los estudiantes serán amigos de un grupo creado en Facebook con este fin; y responden y crean publicaciones en otro sitio llamado Ning. • Todas las actividades apuntan a mejorar la destreza en la escritura, conocer nuevos estudiantes-amigos, y elevar el nivel de pensamiento crítico en la segunda lengua, entre otros objetivos.

Rationale: • Thisprojectaims at providing students withtheopportunitytoexchangetheirknowledgeabouttheHolocaustwith students in a different country undergoing a Holocaustprojecttoo. • Therefore, our students willbefriendswith a Facebookgroupcreatedforthispurpose; willanswer and createpostson a different page calledNing, as theyreflectabouttheirexperiences in thelonghours of instruction. • Theywillenhancetheirwritingskills, meet new students-friends, and develop more theircriticalthinkingskill in the target language.
