  1. General news… Monthly meeting, CLIC physics and detector study, 19 Nov 2012 Lucie Linssen L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  2. Upcoming LC workshops and meetings CALICE AHCAL + DAQ meeting, DESY, December 10+11 2012 https://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=5891 CLIC workshop, January 28 – February 1 2013 http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=204269 (see another talk at this meeting) ECFA (regional) linear collider workshop, DESY, May 27-31 2013 Chair of the local organising committee: KarstenBuesser Contact persons for CLIC within the local organisingcommittee: Felix Sefkow LCWS13 (international), Tokyo, November 11-15 2013 L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  3. Recent documents… The CLIC accelerator CDR was finished (!), CERN-2012-007. Electronic version of the document (140 Mbytes): http://project-clic-cdr.web.cern.ch/project-CLIC-CDR If you would like a printed copy (>800 pages), register here: https://indico.cern.ch/confRegistrationFormDisplay.py/display?confId=206903 (Deadline: 20 December 2012) L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  4. New benchmark studies (1) New CLIC benchmark studies are starting. One of the main aims: A comprehensive paper on CLIC Higgs studies at 350 GeV, 500 GeV, 1.4 TeV, 3 TeV => to be ready for ECFA LC meeting at DESY L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  5. New benchmark studies (2) L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  6. New cost-effective ECAL studies • Cost-effective ECAL study • Simulation + hardware study • … thinking of: • Reducing number of ECAL layers • Understand the need for granularity in 1st / 2nd part of ECAL • Study scintillator-tile option (for 2nd part of) ECAL • … or whatever the simulation will teach us • Conveners: • John Marshall (Cambridge, simulation part) • Christian Joram(CERN, hardware part) • Indico category: • http://indico.cern.ch/categoryDisplay.py?categId=4379 • Mailing list: lcd-ecal@cern.ch • Participation/Interest for this study expressed by: Cambridge, CERN, DESY, LAPP, MPI, Shinsu + others (e.g. current partners in AHCAL scint + calibration) L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  7. LCD notes From our web page: • Andrei has a new job at Brookhaven • Frank Simon will replace him for the LCD notes. • With many thanks to Andrei for his contribution ! L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  8. Publications related to our CLIC study While waiting for an Institute Board we need to give guidance on publications… Proposal (please comment): Recommendation for publications based on common work and common tools related to the CLIC physics and detector study: In case the work has been carried out by a limited number of authors, they can publish their work independently. It is expected that the work is normally already described in an LCD note. Prior to submission for publication, the paper shall be sent to Dieter and Frank, who make it available for review to the members of the CLIC detector and physics study for a short lapse of time (typically 1 week). In most cases it is expected that the CLIC physics and detector study is mentioned or acknowledged in the paper. L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  9. End of the W-HCAL beam tests The CERN PS and SPS test beam campaigns with the tungsten HCAL, scintillator (2010-2011) and RPC (2012) are finished. This has been a BIG success. Many thanks to all who contributed. Lots and lots of data to be analysed. L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  10. Thank you L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  11. SPARE SLIDES L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012

  12. physics/detector objectives: 2012-2016 • Implementation study and technical demonstration phase • Physics studies, following up on 8 TeV and 14 TeV LHC results • Exploration of SM physics (incl. Higgs, top) and reach for new physics • Adaptation of strategy for CLIC energy staging and luminosity levels • Detector optimisation • General detector optimisation+ simulation studies in close relation with detector R&D • R&D:Implementation examples demonstrating the required functionality • Vertex detector • Demonstration module, meeting requirements of high precision, 10 ns time stamp and ultra-low mass • Main tracker • Demonstration modules, including manageable occupancies in the event reconstruction • Calorimeters • Demonstration modules, technological prototypes + addressing control of cost • Electronics • Demonstrators, in particular in view of power pulsing • Magnet systems • Demonstrators of conductor technology, safety systems and moveable service lines • Engineering and detector integration • Engineering design and detector integration harmonized with hardware R&D demonstrators Lots of work in common with ILC ! Challenging detector technologies, considered feasible in a 5-year R&D program L. Linssen, CLIC detector and physics, monthly 19/11/2012
