Gunmen loyal to both sides
kidnap people - sometimes for
political reasons but more often
as a money-making criminal
enterprise. So most people in
Damascus think it is safer to stay
at home after dark.
The Old City in the Syrian capital Damascus
is increasingly deserted
Joint Statement from the Catholic & Anglican leaders in England
We both continue to pray for a political solution to this tragic conflict that would stem the terrible violence and also empower all Syrians with their fundamental and inalienable freedoms. We also call for urgent humanitarian aid to reach all who are suffering. We pray that Syria can recapture its tradition of tolerance, rooted in faith and respect for faiths living side by side.
A prayer for the people of Syria
Merciful Father, the strength of all who suffer, defender of all who trust in you, whose compassion never fails; look with mercy upon the stricken people of Syria, touch the hearts of all who oppress, that they may be open to the ways of justice and of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord who suffered and died for all and who lives with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever.
St Benedict’s Syria Appeal
“We also call for urgent humanitarian aid to reach all who are suffering.”

How are you going to be Christ, the Good Shepherd, to Syrians in need help?
