    1. P1/M1/D1 - Understanding Principles & Values Individual Rights Can you remember them? B) Ethical Considerations C) Worker responsibilities D) Confidentiality

    2. B) Ethical Considerations Ethics are moral codes that professionals must stick to when working within Health & Social Care. Ethical working includes respecting the basic principles & values that underpin practice. Ethics can involve moral dilemmas e.g. whether to prolong life against the wishes of a terminally ill patient.

    3. A person-centred approach This means the service user is at the centre of the care and support they are receiving. This means they need to be included in the planning or decision making about their life.

    4. Right to life It is a belief that a human being has a right to live and does not have the right to be killed by another person. Euthanasia Abortion Capital punishment There are many debates in Health & Social Care about ‘Right to Life’ situations Practitioners from different faiths and religious beliefs can find this hard.

    5. An ethical dilemma Euthanasia is the deliberate ending of a persons life, usually at his or her own request. It is illegal in Britain but allowed in other countries e.g. Switzerland. First part of P3 Use the internet to investigate the ethical issue of euthanasia. Research the different opinions and consider your own thoughts and beliefs. Write it as a magazine article.

    7. Honesty Honesty is an ethical consideration and is an important value and principle that should be followed within health & social care practice. Honesty is something that individuals expect. Can you remember a time when someone has been dishonest with you?

    8. Empathy Means being able to put yourself in the same position as others. Empathy is shown by the words you use and the way you speak to people. As a health & social care worker it is important to be able to empathise with people who use the services. Not easy though – you might not have experienced the problem which makes it hard to put yourself in their shoes.

    9. Second part of P3/M1 Write a magazine article (s) which explains and discusses the principles and values that underpin the support for individuals using the Health Centre. (How are these important for people who use the Health Centre?) To be included: Individual Rights Ethical Considerations M1 Discusses – different sides and points of view. D1 Assess – review the information, form a conclusion based on the evidence, include your own thoughts supported by evidence & examples.

    10. C) Worker responsibilities Workers have certain responsibilities which underpin the support given to users to ensure their individual rights are being met.

    11. Third part of P3/M1 Write a magazine article discussing the role of the Health Centre receptionist. To be included: Promotion of equality of opportunity Provision of active support Effective communication Views and preferences Accurate recording Storage and retrieval of information.

    12. D) Confidentiality To be kept secret and secure private information about service users. Confidentiality Disclosure Breaking confidentiality When it is necessary to break confidentiality Legislation on confidentiality

    13. Fourth part of P3/M1 Write out the 4 scenarios from P44 & P45 as a problem page article. You need to answer each problem giving correct advice about confidentiality.
