  2. A Walk Through the Bible ● The book of Judges relates the history of Israel after Joshua. 1. Judges covers about 450 years following the conquest of Canaan.

  3. A Walk Through the Bible 2. There are four segments of approximately 500 years each in the nation’s history.

  4. A Walk Through the Bible a. From the birth of Abram to the death of Joseph. b. From the death of Joseph to the Exodus.

  5. A Walk Through the Bible • From the Exodus to the monarchy. d. From the monarchy to the exile.

  6. A Walk Through the Bible 3. It is a record of alternating defeat and victory. 4. The book was probably written by Samuel.

  8. A Walk Through the Bible 1. Judah and Simeon joined together to subdue the Canaanites within their territory, but were only partially successful. 2. The Philistine cities of the coast, remained un-subdued.

  15. A Walk Through the Bible 4. Ehud returns to Israel, blew the trumpet of assembly, and led an army to attack the Moabites killing about 2,000 of their warriors. 5. There was peace in the land for 40 years under Ehud.

  20. A Walk Through the Bible ● Gideon Battles the Medianites 1. 40 years of peace was again broken by idolatry. 2. Seven years the Midianites from east of the Jordan harassed the Israelites to the point they had to hide in caves.

  21. A Walk Through the Bible 3. In chapters 6-8 the angel of the Lord appears to Gideon. 4. Gideon pleads weakness like Moses did. God reassures him.

  22. A Walk Through the Bible 5. Gideon prepares a meal for the visitor and the Lord touches it with his staff and it is consumed by fire. (remember Cain & Able?) 6. God gives Gideon a miraculous sign involving the fleece of a sheep.

  24. A Walk Through the Bible 9. More are sent home, now he has an army of 300 men. 10. Shortly after midnight Gideon gave the word and trumpets were blown and torches flashed and the Midianites self-destructed.

  25. A Walk Through the Bible ●Jephthah – The Son of A Harlot 1. In chapter 11 God laid hold of Jephthah. The son of a Harlot. 2. The Ammonites from the east launched an attack against Israel.

  26. A Walk Through the Bible 3. The elders of Gilead, Jephthah’s brothers asked him to lead the Israelites against Ammon. 4. Jephthah makes a strange vow to offer in burnt sacrifice whatever came out of his door to greet him on his return.

  27. A Walk Through the Bible 5. His daughter an only child met him at the door. He refused to break his vow. 6. Verse 39 says he did to her according to the vow he had made.

  41. A Walk Through the Bible 2. Three times he gave her false clues and three times the Philistines came at him and were repulsed. 3. He finally tells her the truth, then while he slept she had a servant shave his head.

  49. A Walk Through the Bible • The old man gave them his concubine who was raped all night until she died. 8. The man was so upset he cut her into 12 parts and sent them to the 12 tribes.

  50. A Walk Through the Bible • The tribes were outraged and went to the Benjamites to find out who had done it. • The Benjamites were attacked and only 600 were left after the attack.
