  1. Mr Twit Mr Twit was one of these very hairy-faced men. The whole of his face except for his forehead, his eyes and his nose was covered with thick hair. Mr Twit felt that this hairiness made him look terrifically wise and grand. But in truth he was neither of these things. Mr Twit was a twit. He was born a twit. And now at the age of sixty, he was a bigger twit than ever. The hair on Mr Twit’s face didn’t grow smooth and matted as it does on most hairy-faced men.

  2. It grew in spikes that stuck out straight like the bristles of a nailbrush.

  3. …like the bristles of a nailbrush. There are 2 things being compared here, what are they?

  4. Similes A simile is a comparison between two different things, using the wordslike or as. • Lightning is very fast.  You can imagine a picture of how fast she is running!

  5. Now let’s try! Matilda slept on the soft blanket.  Matilda slept on a blanket that was as soft as… What things are soft?

  6. Unexpectedly, she rolled onto something sharp. She rolled across the blanket like a… What could she have rolled like??

  7. Now it’s your turn… On your worksheet, please use similes to describe the BFG’s head, ears, and arms.

  8. Let’s improve the level of these similes: Now it’s your turn… • The Bloodbottler ran as fast as a cheetah. b. The BFG’s laugh was as loud as an explosion. c. Ravenous, Sophie gobbled up the snozzcumber like an animal eating its prey.
