  1. Airframe Noise Sources Slat noise • Major sources of airframe noise • Landing-gear noise is originated from local flow separation and impingement of wake flow. • Noise from High Lift Devices (slats and flaps) are due to the shed and impingement of the turbulent flow. The aerodynamic noise level of an aircraft with deployed HLDs are up to 10dB higher. Landing gear noise OGV interaction noise rotor boundary layer interaction noise VALIANT VALidation and Improvement of Airframe Noise prediction Tools VKI (B, Co-ordinator), IMM (RU), ECL (F), TUB (D), ONERA (F), TsAGI (RU), NLR (NL), DLR (D), CIMNE (SP), NTS (RU), NUMECA (B), LMS (B) September, 2009 – September, 2012, ACP8-GA-2009-233680 Flap noise Cavity noise Validation configurations • Experimental measurements over the chosen configurations (WP2). • State-of-art numerical simulations to identify the weakness of the approaches applied by the partners (WP3). • Based on the results, improvement of the tools in the near-, mid- and far-field regions (WP4). • Extension of analytical modeling to the considered configurations (WP4). • Redo all the simulations with the new, improved prediction tools.
