  3. Why Inmate Aggressive Behavior • Personal Problems (Inside or Outside Influences) • Disciplined (Getting Caught) • Feels Disrespected (Dignity Removed) • Rights Violated • Racial Influence

  4. Staff Response • Model Calmness • Maintain “Balance” (Physical & Mental) • “Active” Listening • Be Aware of Your Non-Verbal Comm. & Demeanor • Be Aware of Your Tone of Voice

  5. Staff Responses • Take a “Problem Solving” Approach • Remove & Isolate the inmate • Display a “Command Presence” • Use Force as a Last Resort • Use Only That Amount of Force as is Reasonable and Necessary.
