REQUIREMENTS • AS A GROUP YOU WILL CREATE AND PRESENT A POWERPOINT. • Each individual will be responsible for a subtopic to present. • INDIVIDUALLY, YOU WILL RESEARCH AND CREATE YOUR PORTION OF THE POWERPOINT TO PRESENT TO CLASS. • The PowerPoint IS WORTH 400 POINTS EACH. • PowerPoint presentations IN April and May!

Presentation Topics • Environmental issues—oil, water, animals, warming, deforestation, etc. • Human Trafficking / Modern day Slavery • Genocides of the 20th century-Armenian, Cambodian, Rwandan, Darfurian. • Terrorism • Global Issues/ Female and other equality issues / poverty in the world • Piracy

Environmental Issues • What type of environmental issues? • Global warming • Deforestation • Fossil fuel • Oil • Water • Human suffering—earthquakes, droughts, etc. • Any issues you would like to discuss. What types of poverty? • Impact of poverty? • What is being done? • What should be done? Or could be done? • What causes poverty? • Where is poverty most prevalent? • Who should help stop or lessen the impact of poverty? • W’s—Who? Where? What? When? Why? • How to prevent? • Who has the responsibility to do something? • Your opinion?

Modern Day Slavery • Modern Day slavery: history • Human trafficking: domestic slaves; sex slaves. • Children as slaves • Where is this happening? • US • South America • Africa • Middle East • Asia • Why? What? How? Etc. • What is being done to prevent this from happening? Role of the U.S.? • What is your opinion? Go in to depth.

  6. 20th Century Genocides • Genocides to be covered: • Armenian • Pol Pot / Cambodia • Rwanda • Bosnia / Kosovo • Darfur / Sudan • Who was involved? Where? Why? What? Etc. • Preventable? • Your opinion on what should have been done on the genocides above. • Your opinion on what can and should been done to prevent genocides in the future.

Terrorism • Terrorism around the world--history • al Qaeda • IRA • National Liberation Army (ELN)—Colombia and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) • HAMAS (Islamic Resistance Movement) and The Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ )and Hezbollah (Party of God) • Army for the Liberation of Rwanda (ALIR) • Women terrorists • Any other group you find or are interested in. • Who are they targeting? How? Why? When? Etc. • What can be done to prevent? What is being done? • Your opinion on terrorism.

Global Communities/ Poverty • Equality in communities in the world • Female • Gay / Lesbian • How are countries today interdependent? • How did or do emerging nations from Africa, Asia, and Latin America impact our interdependence today? • Technology, resources, communication, etc. • How are economies impacting our world? • How does population growth impact our world? • Changing population—where? Why? What should be done?

  9. Modern Day Piracy • History of Piracy • Piracy today— • Where? • Why? • When? • What? • Can it be prevented? • Who has the responsibility to prevent piracy? • Your opinion?

  10. Remember--- • Show interest when doing your power point. • Mainly pictures, maps, etc. • Short bullets with facts. • Make the class a part of your power point by having a quiz or game at the end. • Have fun!!!! • If you are not enthused about your topic no one else will be either.

  11. Grade –400 points!!! • You will be graded on your PowerPoint. • Lab work • PowerPoint: (between 25 and 35 minutes) • Each member of the group must do their own section of the power point. • Must have note cards to go along with your slides. • Need a works cited page at the end of the power point for your pictures and information.

  12. Drug Trafficking • History of drug trafficking • Who is involved? Where? Why? How? Etc. • Preventable? How? Who? • Effects of drug trafficking. • Your opinion on this current issue in the world.

  13. Nuclear Weapons in our world • Who has nuclear weapons? • Nuclear power controversies today. • What are the guidelines of nuclear weapons and technology? • What challenges are facing our world? • Nuclear war? Prevention? • Your opinion.

  14. Drug Trafficking • What problems occur due to drug trafficking? • Crime, poverty, slavery, etc. • Where is most drug trafficking being trafficked from and to? • What is being done to prevent the trafficking of drugs? • What should be done?

  15. Global Community / Poverty in our world • What types of poverty? • Impact of poverty? • What is being done? • What should be done? Or could be done? • What causes poverty? • Where is poverty most prevalent? • Who should help stop or lessen the impact of poverty?
