Statistical developments • Statistical frameworks are well developed and integrated on the economic dimension • System of National Accounts (SNA08) • SNA08 eventually will be adopted worldwide • Capitalisation of R&D in National Accounts • OECD Innovation Strategy • OECD Handbook on Deriving Capital Measures of Intellectual Property Products • Oslo Manual • Frascati Manual

  5. Statistical developments • Further development required for statistical frameworks on social and environmental dimensions • Public sector innovation is an example of work progressing in this area

Statistical developments • Challenges include: • Measuring effort & impact; • Definitions, mappings and relationships; • Public sector innovation • Integration as part of broader social, economic and environmental statistics • Exploiting the full potential of existing data • Supporting key research & analytical questions (e.g. integrated collections)

  7. Coordination issues? • There is a lot of activity in this field • International groups & committees • Localised activity across countries • What can we do better to harvest the fruits of these efforts? • Avoid reinventing the wheel … or inventing different wheels …
