Battalion Battalion History The battalion was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 307th Engineer Regiment and organized at Camp Gordon, Georgia, on 27 August 1917 as a unit of the 82d Infantry Division. The Regiment participated in three World War I campaigns: Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, and Lorraine. It demobilized on 17 May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. The 307th Engineer Battalion was again ordered into active service on 25 March 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, as part of the 82d Infantry Division. On 15 August 1942, the battalion redesignated as the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion and was assigned to the 82d Airborne Division. From 1942-1945 the battalion participated in eight major campaigns, more than any other engineer battalion, and was the first engineer battalion to perform a mission with an Airborne Division. The campaigns were Sicily, Anzio, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace (the Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe. In 1946, the battalion moved to and stationed at Ft Bragg, North Carolina. In 1965, the battalion deployed with the division to the Dominican Republic. After the combat situation became static, the battalion constructed roads, and ranges. Charlie Company deployed to the Republic of Vietnam from February 1968 to December 1969 with Third Brigade of the 82d Airborne Division, and participated in seven campaigns. In October 1983, soldiers of the 307th Engineer Battalion and the 618th Engineer Company deployed to the Island of Grenada to take part in Operation Urgent Fury, a rescue operation of American citizens in that country. In December 1989, soldiers of the 307th Engineer Battalion and the 618th Engineer Company joined 1st Brigade and participated in the largest combat parachute assault since WWII when they jumped into Panama to take part in Operation Just Cause. In August 1990, the battalion deployed to Saudi Arabia to support the 82d Airborne Division during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where the battalion destroyed over 55,000 tons of Iraqi arms and equipment In August 1992, troopers of the 307th Engineer Battalion and the 618th Engineer Company were called upon to provide assistance in relief efforts for Florida residents devastated by Hurricane Andrew. Most recently in September 1994, the battalion was fully prepared for airborne assault and sea deployment to Haiti for Operation Uphold Democracy. Additionally, C Company deployed soldiers to Panama in December 1994 with 2-505 PIR to quell rioting and assist in refugee control as part of Operation Safe Haven. The current mission of the 307th Engineer Battalion is to be prepared to deploy worldwide, no notice, by parachute assault to conduct combat engineering operations in support of the 82d Airborne Division.   6. BACKBONE NCOs No one is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as “The Backbone of the Army”. I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the Military Service, and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety. Competence is my watch-word. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind---accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment. Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders! BACKBONE TAB-B

  7. BATTALION CODE OF CONDUCT I I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense. II I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist. III If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy. IV If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way. V When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am requires to give name, rank, service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause. VI I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free.
