  3. mIRC in Windows • mIRC – a shareware IRC Chat client for Windows • IRC - Internet Relay Chat • net's equivalent of CB radio. Unlike CB, IRC lets people all over the world communicate in real-time. • a virtual meeting place (channels) where people from all over the world can meet and talk in groups, or privately. • no restriction to the number of people that can participate in a given discussion, or the number of channels that can be formed on IRC. • exchange files from one computer to another.

Requirements for mIRC • Run MS-Windows • Works on Windows 95, 98 and all newer Windows versions • Does not work on Windows CE, WebTV, Macintosh, UNIX or Linux operating systems • Have an Internet account • Properly installed Winsock • If you can use E-mail within Windows already, you are good to go.

  5. Installing mIRC • Download the latest version mIRC 6.03 • http://www.mirc.com/get.html • Free Trial for 30 days • Registration Fee $20 • Double Click the mirc603 setup icon • Accept everything to the defaults will work fine • Installer will take care of the rest

  6. Setting Up mIRC • Connect to Internet • Double Click mIRC icon to start • Close down the welcome screen by clicking X in the upper right-hand corner

  7. Setting Up mIRC • Pick Undernet as IRC Network • Pick a Server Closest to Your Location • Fill Name and E-mail Address • Not necessary to put real info • Fill Nickname to use as alias to chat • Fill Alternative for backup • Click Connect to IRC Server

  8. Connection • After Clicking Connect to IRC Server, the connection confirmation will come up • You are now ready to join a channel

  9. Join a Channel • Pick #Beginner • Click Join

  10. Start Chatting
