  3. How do we approximate • Locate the first decimal place • If the number is five or more add one to the whole number • If the numbers is less than five leave the number as it is • Disregard all the numbers after the decimal point

  4. Lets look at those questions again 16 x 4 = 64 25 x 2.3 = 57.5 2.5 x 16.1 = 40.25 • Using approximations: 16 x 4 = 64 25 x 2 = 50 3 x 16 = 48

  5. Now you try it Evaluate the following: 3.8 x 5.1 = ? 3.8 x 5.1 = 19.38 Using approximation 4 x 5 = 20
