  1. Welcome to an Overview of Germanna’s Libraries

  2. The Locust Grove campus library has the main circulating collection of approximately 30,000 volumes. Additionally, it has an extensive collection of magazines and journals, newspapers, audio-visual materials, and reference. It has listening and viewing stations, and a group study room. The library is located in room 207 at the Locust Grove campus.

  3. The Fredericksburg Area Campus library is comprised of a Reference Collection, journals, magazines, newspapers, and a Popular Titles Collection. The library has a group study room and several audio-visual rooms. The Fredericksburg campus library is located in room 210.

  4. The Daniel Technology Center library in Culpeper is our newest library. It has a Reference Collection, journals, newspapers, and a Popular Titles Collection. The library is located in room 200, overlooking the sculpture.

  5. Intercampus Courier Service is Available! • Since each campus holds a unique collection we have implemented an intercampus courier service – for your convenience. • If the book or material you want is not at the campus you attend, no problem, we will send the item to the campus you want. Just click here: http://www.germanna.edu/library/loan_orientation_request.asp and request an “Intercampus Loan – Item Owned by GCC”. • Or just stop by the library. We will be more than glad to assist you in person.

  6. To get to the Library from Germanna’s home page click on CURRENT STUDENTS, then follow the links to the library.

  7. Follow the links…

  8. Germanna’s library web page is located at www.germanna.edu/library. The virtual library is open 24/7/365!

  9. On the left side of the library home page you will find information on services and library tutorials for more in-depth instruction. On the right side of the page is the main catalog, collections, acquisitions, and forms for requests, among other things.

  10. VCCSLinc is Germanna’s searchable catalog of books, videos, audio books, Safari Books, e-journals, and e-books.

  11. In the catalog we can choose our search type (for example, subject keyword), then enter our search term(s), decide if we want the words to be adjacent, and choose a format and the language.

  12. For fine-tuning we can choose Advanced Search. Here we include the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT. Remember, the operator AND restricts (since it only looks at items with all your terms), OR expands, and NOT limits the search.

  13. From the VCCSLinc page you can Sign-In to check the on due dates and renew books you have checked out. You can also access Help Using Catalog, view Other Library Catalogs, and connect to LRCLive Help…these services are all available in the blue ribbon area.

  14. The Library Catalogs link will provide you access to several catalogs in addition to Germanna’s VCCSLinc. It is a great place to look for material that we do not own, access the netLibrary e-book collection, or your local public library catalog.

  15. NetLibrary has over 80,000 e-books and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Accounts must be created on a Germanna computer. Call us or email library@germanna.edu for assistance if you do not attend any classes on a Germanna campus and are considered to be a “Distance Student” or “Distance Faculty.” We will be more than glad to set up a Free Account for you!

  16. If you find an item we do not own, click here: http://www.germanna.edu/library/loan_orientation_request.aspto request an “Interlibrary Loan – Item NOT owned by Germanna”. Or stop by the library circulation desk for assistance. Interlibrary loans are limited to academic materials.

  17. Distance Learners and Off-Campus Faculty please make sure you use the appropriate form in order to receive delivery at your residence.

  18. Under Department Menu click on Journals/Databases to access databases by subject. Our E-Journal Locator will direct you to specific journals by title, by subject and category.

  19. Databases A-Z, gives you the ability to search our list of over 100 databases by name.

  20. If you are accessing the databases from off-campus, you will need to log-in from the library homepage using your myGCC username and password. “Information for Off-Campus Access” can help assist with problems you may encounter.

  21. We always welcome a question in the library but if you cannot come to us, assistance can come to you through LRCLive.

  22. With LRCLive, a library reference staff member is available to chat online and share content in real time, 24 hours a day - 7 days a week!

  23. On the Library home page visit our Library Tutorials for more in-depth information.

  24. The Library Tutorials provide information about How to Find Books, What are Journals, and How to Find Journal and Newspaper Articles.
