  2. DEBATE: Do leaders really matter? “Leaders are the primary determinant of an organization’s success or failure.” “Leaders don’t really matter because most of the things that affect an organization’s success or failure are outside a leader’s control.”

Role playing • In this leadership program, participants have to play roles of different kinds of leaders. • One can make use of different scenarios in order to play these roles. • Participants will first have to understand the nature or behavioral traits of different types of leaders and then play their roles. • Such an activity help us understand how leaders with different personality types react to a certain situation.

  4. SCENARIO 1: We Want a Man A client calls and informs the manager that although they think that their female catering manager is doing a good job, they want a man instead.

  5. SCENARIO 2: Depressed, But Hanging On • Mary is a 67 year old hostess in your fine dining restaurant. She is having trouble keeping up with younger employees in terms of learning the new computerized reservations system and as a result has become depressed.

  6. SCENARIO 3: Your Out! • A gay employee is accidentally, “outed” when co-workers see a photo of him marching in a pride parade in the local newspaper. Since then, they have treated him poorly and threatened him.

  7. SCENARIO 4: Bad Timing • A woman’s daughter comes down with a fever, and she has no one to look after her. Unfortunately, a proposal she was working on is due that same day.

  8. SCENARIO 5: Who Needs It? • After going through diversity training, a man complains about what an insult it was.
