  2. Introduction: Module 1 Hand Washing • In this module, we will learn about: • "WHY" we wash our hands. • "HOW" we wash our hands. • "WHEN" we wash our hands. Steps to take "BEFORE and AFTER" A POLISHED GIRLZ POLISH!!!! Module 1 ~ Handwashing

WHY WE WASH OUR HANDS: pg. 1 • GERMS are tiny living things • GERMS are too small to see with your eyes • GERMS can be found everywhere • GERMS cause people to get sick • We wash our hands to prevent the spread of germs between us, our clients and other POLISHED GIRLZ volunteers. 0 Module 1 ~ Handwashing

  4. WHY WE WASH OUR HANDS: pg. 2 • HOW DO GERMS MAKE US SICK? • Germs are picked up and shared with other people by: 1. Caughing and sneezing 2. Uncovered sores and wounds 3. Unclean surfaces and items 4. Dirty hands and skin contact 5. Germs hide on surfaces, fly through the air and multiply in wet areas POLISHED GIRLZ know that covering our mouths and noses when coughing and sneezing, wiping surfaces and washing our hands will prevent the spread of GERMS! 0 Module 1 ~ Handwashing

HOW WE WASH OUR HANDS: pg. 1 • USE WARM SOAPY WATER • Wet hands and wrist thoroughly; add soap. • Rub hands and Lather, Lather, Lather!!! • Lather between your fingers and around your thumbs, finger tips and nails. • Count to 20, then rinse well. • Dry thoroughly Because Polish and Water don’t mix! 0 Module 1 ~ Handwashing

  6. HOW WE WASH OUR HANDS: pg. 2 • USING HAND SANITIZER - Be sure to check your hands and fingers for any cuts or sores. We use alcohol based sanitizers which may burn an open wound. • Use 3 to 4 pumps or palm size. • Rub hands together making sure to cover both hands and wrists completely. • Be sure to cover between fingers and the tips of fingers and nails! • Keep rubbing until your hands, wrist and fingers are dry. 0 Module 1 ~ Handwashing

  7. The Summary 1. GERMS ARE SMALL LIVING THINGS THAT CAN’T BE SEEN BY THE NAKED EYE. 2. GERMS CAN BE SPREAD IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS. 3. GERMS CAN MAKE YOU AND OUR CLIENTS SICK. 4. WASHING OUR HANDS WITH WARM, SOAPY WATER OR USING HAND SANITIZER WILL REDUCE THE SPREAD OF GERMS. 5. WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER YOU SERVE EACH OF OUR POLISHED GIRLZ !!!!! • Module 1 ~ Handwashing
