  5. Bench Order- sitting order on the boat Two people can sit on one bench. Front1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Back STROKES- leads the boat (confident and light paddlers) ENGINE ROOM – the strongest and the heavies sit here FRONT THREE BACK THREE

  6. Before you get on the boat: • Line up according to your bench order. • Know your bench mates name. • You must stay in this order until you get into the boat.

  7. Getting in the boat • People must load the boat one bench at a time. (Listen for instructions.) • When you get in the boat, sit on the bench, push your hips to the gunnels and push your feet against the foot rest. gunnels bench Foot rest

  8. Commands “Paddle’s up” = get ready The paddles are just above the water. They are not in the water.

  10. “Take it away”- start paddling • “Let it ride”- stop paddling and take your paddles out of the water.

  11. “Hold the boat”=stop the boatPut your paddle deep into the water.
