  5. For / AgainstWindows 8 For • On the right hardware, it's sleek, fast and fun • Huge security improvements • Better battery life, faster boot • Great for touch Against • Start menu gone • Can't boot to the desktop • You'll want a touchscreen Stylus • Modern UI takes getting used to • Some older CPUs won't run it

  6. Major Enhancements of Windows 8 • Starts with Start Screen Vice Desktop • Stops automatically into Standby Mode • Open Apps with Click; Close with Discard Gesture • Uses Touchscreen; Mouse; Stylus; or Finger • Split Screen Controlled by Fingers • Semantic Zoom with the Pinch • Uses Virtual Keyboard, Attached or USB Keyboard • Charms for Search, Share, Start, Devices, or Settings • Select Applications (Apps) from Search Charm • Ultra Low Power Consumption for Windows 8 apps

  7. Virtual Touchscreen In Desktop, click on keyboard in taskbar In Start Screen, Context will Activate Letters & some punctuation on one Keyboard Numbers & Special Characters on another Not all keys are on Virtual Keyboard • Function Keys • Print Screen & other Special Keys Bigger Keys Allow Use of Fingers

  11. Low Power Consumption • Use of 64-bit instruction set vice old x-86 set • Use of Connected Standby (where your PC turns off but leaves the wireless running and receiving only the notifications you've asked for, so your email stays up to date and you can get VoIP calls, but apps aren't running and neither is Windows). PC Lasts 5-6 Hours or Longer

  12. DislikesWindows 8 • Touch Screen takes getting use to – I am still learning after a month and a half. • Can’t use my Printer (HP Color Laserjet CP 1020nw) with Wireless – Only with USB Connection • Photos can be rotated for icon; but not for display – Maybe I need a different App? • Many Apps not preinstalled • No Media viewer – Initially could not see .jpg’s • Many Apps are free from App Store
