  2. What Prompted this Discussion • Data suggests that alcohol protocol has helped curtail alcohol offenses • While the number of alcohol cases has declined, marijuana cases have increased

  3. What Did We Do? • Asked 2006-07 Student Senate to study the issue of a marijuana sanctioning protocol • Charged Review and Standards Committee to review Student Senate’s resolution (#0607-16) on this issue & make recommendations

Definition of Marijuana Offense B-6 • Possession or Use of Marijuana - Conduct covered by this offense includes but is not limited to: • 1. possession of marijuana when such possession would constitute a minor misdemeanor; • 2. use of marijuana; • 3. possession of a device (drug paraphernalia) that has been used to ingest marijuana

Review and Standards Recommendations • Early in its work, R&S saw the need for a marijuana protocol to mesh with the university’s alcohol protocol. • R&S unanimously recommended that the university adopt one “alcohol and marijuana sanctioning protocol.” • R&S was split between two approaches to sanctioning for alcohol and marijuana and recommended 2 protocols for consideration – Protocol A and Protocol B. (with administrative and faculty members preferring A and student members preferring B)

PROTOCOL A 1st Alcohol or Marijuana Offense 6-9 Months probation $100 fine Alcohol and Marijuana Intervention 2nd Alcohol or Marijuana Offense - while on probation Suspension for 1 quarter 2nd Alcohol or Marijuana Offense - while not on probation 12 month to career probation $100 fine Alcohol and Marijuana Intervention PROTOCOL B 1st Alcohol or Marijuana Offense 6-9 Months probation $100 fine Intervention program specific to the nature of offense 2nd Alcohol Offense - while on probation for alcohol (same applies for Marijuana) Suspension for 1 quarter 2nd Alcohol or Marijuana Offense - while not on probation for either an alcohol or marijuana offense 12 month to career probation $100 fine Intervention program specific to the nature of offense R&S Alcohol and Marijuana Protocol Recommendations:
