  3. There are at least eight species of baobab.

  4. They are found in: *Madagascar and *Africa(south of the Sahara)

  5. “I pointed out to the little prince that baobabs were not little bushes, but, on the contrary, trees as big as castles;

  6. “And even if he took a whole herd of elephants with him, the herd would not eat up a single baobab.”--Saint Exupery: Le Petit Prince

  7. One African Legend tells us:

  8. The baobab was among the first trees to appear on the land.

  9. Next came the slender, graceful palm tree.

  10. When the baobab saw the palm tree, it cried out that it wanted to be taller.

  11. Then the beautiful flame tree appeared with its red flower and the baobab was envious for flower blossoms.

  12. When the baobab saw the magnificent fig tree, it prayed for fruit as well.

  13. The gods became angry with the tree and pulled it up by its roots, then replanted it upsidedown to keep it quiet!

  14. Baobabs—known as Boabs or Bottle trees—are also found in Australia

  15. Boab seed (Australia)

  16. “A baobab is something you will never, never be able to get rid of if you attend to it too late.”

  17. It spreads over the entire planet.

  18. It bores clear through it with its roots. And if the planet is too small, and the baobabs are too many, they split it in pieces . . .

  19. "Children," I say plainly, "watch out for the baobabs!" --Saint Exupery: Le Petit Prince
