  5. Recommended Graduation Plan 26 Credits • The 4x4 Plan • 4 ELA • 4 Math • 4 Science • 4 Social Studies • PE (1) • Fine Arts (1) • Speech (½) • Foreign Language (2) • Electives (5 ½)

Distinguished Graduation Plan 26 Credits** • 4x4 • 4 ELA • 4 Math • 4 Science • 4 Social Studies • PE (1) • Fine Arts (1) • Speech (½) • Foreign Language (3) • Electives (4 ½) • ADVANCED MEASURES (4)** • As a distinguished Graduate, a combination of any of the four following advanced measures must be completed in addition to the 26 credits required for graduation: • A Score of 3 or Above on the College Board AP Exam • A grade of 3.0 or higher on dual credit courses • A score on the PSAT that qualifies the students as a National Merit Scholar (May only be used for one measure) • An original research project judged by a panel of professionals in the field or conducted under a mentor and reported to an appropriate audience. May not be used for more than 2 measures.

How do I ensure my child is competitive? • Graduation spreadsheet handout • The state requires the 4x4 (26 credits) At CHS, with 8 periods, students can earn as many as 32 credits. • Take as many rigorous courses in which you can be SUCCESSFUL • How will you spend your extra credits? • Fifth year of science? ELA electives? Additional Math? Science Electives? Career Technology courses that support your major? Fine arts? Work Experience?

  10. TEAMS Exit Level Math (1986) • Two Steps: • Find point on graph • Multiply • 30 pupils x $300 = $9,000

  11. TAAS Exit Level Math (1999) • Three Steps: • Find paper • on pie chart • Divide tons of • paper by total • tons: • 72/180 • 3. Convert to 40%

  12. TAKS Exit Level Math (2002 Field Test) • Five Steps: • Add all votes • 240 + 420 + 180 + 300 + 60 = 1,200 • 2. Determine which student finished 3rd • (Bridget: 240 votes) • 3. Determine Bridget’s %age of votes • 240 / 1,200 = 20% • Know that a pie chart has 360 total degrees • Determine 20% of 360 degrees: • .20 x 360 = 72

Five Steps: • The student must know how to apply the • quadratic formula to find the value of the • discrimant • Find quadratic equation on formula chart: • If • there are two real number roots of the equation • and the graph of the parabola crosses the • x-axis at those roots • If • there is a “multiple” or repeated root of the • equation and the vertex of the graph of the • parabola touches the x-axis at that root. • If • the roots of the equation are imaginary numbers • and the graph of the parabola does not • intersect the x-axis STAAR Exit Level Math? EOC • 4 Hour time limit to take the test • Must pass the following exams: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2; English 1, 2, and 3 (Reading and Writing); Biology, Chemistry, Physics; World Geography, World History, US History. • Different Performance Levels: • Level I – Unsatisfactory • Level II – Recommended • Level III - Advanced

But Wait…there’s more • Sum of each test must meet an cumulative level to be able to Graduate at the Recommended Level and another to Graduate at the Distinguished Level. • Algebra 1 + Geometry + Algebra 2* = 10500 (AND the exit level Algebra 2 and English 3 MUST be at either the Recommended or Advanced level scores, for the respective graduation plans)

  16. Specific Numbers • Math, Science, Social Studies • Passing at Level 2 Recommended = 3500 • Passing at Level 3 Advanced = 4300 -4600 • 1.) Algebra 1 + Geometry + Algebra 2* = 10500 • AND 2.) Exit level Algebra 2 and English 3 MUST be at either the Recommended or Advanced level scores, for the respective graduation plans)
