  4. Emory L. Bennett-Early History • Emory L. Bennett was born in Volusia County in 1929. • Family moved to Brevard County in 1936. • Graduated from Cocoa High School in 1948. • Joined the army after hostilities began in Korea in 1950.

  5. Medal of Honor Citation • On June 24, 1951, near Sobangsan, Korea, Pfc. Bennett repelled an attack by 2 enemy battalions by leaving his foxhole and inflicting numerous causalities on the enemy. Upon orders to move back, Pfc. Bennett remained behind to provide covering fire for withdrawing troops, sweeping the charging foe with gunfire until mortally wounded. medalofhonor.com
