  1. Indiana RESPECT Technical Assistance Meeting FY2010 & FY2011 October 15, 2009

  2. Indiana RESPECT • Indiana Reduces Early Sex and Pregnancy by Educating Children and Teens • To implement sexuality education programs with an emphasis on preventing pregnancy and contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) during the adolescent and teen years.

  3. Priority Populations • Adolescents (both male and female) of all races and ethnicities aged 10-14 years • Or • Adolescents in grades 5-8 • And • Adolescents living in counties with the highest rates of teen pregnancy for females aged 10-19 years

  4. Priority Populations • It is not required that projects serve students in all grades 5-8. For example, you may serve students only in grades 7 and 8. • It is not required that the proposed project be implemented in a school setting.

  5. Curriculum Requirements • Minimum of 5 hours of programming per participant • Focus on responsible sexual behavior • Discussion on abstinence and condoms, birth control and risk-reduction methods • Include information about pregnancy prevention and the prevention of STDs • Educate on Chlamydia, gonorrhea, Human papillomavirus (HPV) and HIV/AIDS • Incorporate decision-making skills and exercises to enhance communication skills

  6. Curriculum Choices • Self-developed curriculum • Existing curriculum, with adaptations or modifications • Evidence-based curriculum (Draw the Line, Respect the Lineor Making Proud Choices: A Safer Sex Approach to HIV/STDs and Teen Pregnancy Prevention) without adaptations

  7. Curriculum Assessment • Tool to Assess the Characteristics of Effective Sex and STD/HIV Education Programs (TAC) • Not required if implementing an evidence-based curriculum

  8. Process Objectives • Objectives are realistic targets for a project • Answers the question: • Who is going to do what, when, why and to what standard? • SMART Objectives required for inclusion in the work plan • A template for creating objectives can be found in the RFP

  9. Health & Wellness Standards • Indiana Academic Standards for Health and Wellness • 8 standards

  10. Evaluation and Reporting • Evaluation • Administration of pre-post test • Pre-post test found in the appendix of the application • Aggregate data only • Reporting • Report on progress toward work plan process objectives to be submitted quarterly

  11. Grant and Budget Periods • Grant Period • March 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 • Budget Periods • March 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010 • July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011

  12. Fiscal Requirements • Must provide a minimum of 35% matching funds for each budget period • May not request more than $12,000 for the first budget period • May not request more than $35,000 for the second budget period • Funds from the first budget period may not carry over into the second budget period

  13. Registering with the State • Agencies seeking funding must be registered with the Secretary of State • If already registered, must ensure a “clear” status. • DO NOT contact ISDH for information regarding registering with the state. • All inquiries MUST be directed to the Office of the Secretary of State.

  14. Clarifications • You will need to print off the logic model form pages in order to hand write information in the boxes. • You must be able to show documentation that the locations you do programming in will allow you to administer the survey to those students who have consent to take the survey. • Mileage reimbursement is 40 cents per mile.

  15. Reminders and Tips • Adhere to formatting guidelines • Adhere to the order of collated documents to be submitted • Submit one original and three copies of the application • Applications are NOT to be sent to Stephanie Woodcox, Vanessa Daniels or Kathy McManus (Send to Randy Gardner)

  16. Application Deadline • Applications must be received by MCH no later than 4:00 PM E.S.T on November 13, 2009 • Applications postmarked on or later than November 13, 2009 will not be considered for funding

  17.
