  1. Topic 3 Plant Testing And Data Analysis

  2. In The Last Lecture • Data Analysis • First-Order Systems • Higher-Order Systems

  3. Topic 1 Introduction To Process Control Topic 2 Introduction To Process Dynamics Topic 3 Plant Testing And Data Analysis Topic 4 Controller Actions And Tuning Topic 5 Enhanced Regulatory Control Strategies Topic 6 Process Control Hardware Systems Topic 7 Control Valves Topic 8 Process Control Troubleshooting What We Will Cover

  4. In This Lecture… • Interacting Loops

  5. Conducting a Plant Test

  6. Interactive Processes • Two loops are said to interact when the MV or CV of one loop affects the other’s CV and vice versa • When loop 1 CV is disturbed, the controller adjusts its MV to bring its PV to SP. • This causes loop 2 CV to be disturbed and as a result it adjusts its own MV to bring its PV to SP. • This causes loop 1 CV to be disturbed... • They can continue fighting each other until one of the loops is put in Manual mode or after one of them is de-tuned

  7. An Example If both loops are aggressively tuned, Reduce AC.SP  LSFO increase LC.PV increase  HSFO decrease AC.PV decrease  LSFO decrease LC.PV decrease  HSFO increase……

  8. In This Lecture… • Interacting Loops

  9. In The Next Lecture… • Process Control Hardware (Topic 6) • DCS • Communications
