  2. IMPORTANT UPDATE We are pleased to announce that the Credential Information Sessions will take place in December 2009 through June 2010. Attendance at the sessions is optional. For admissions information, please visit our website: www.csueastbay.edu/cssc. Please review this PowerPoint for important admissions information. You should also review the Admissions Handbook located on our website for more details, admissions forms, and checklists.

Cost and Financial Aid Information Tuition and fees are posted at: www.csueastbay.edu/cost Estimated cost for the year is $7200 (based on full-time, CA resident rate) Rates are subject to change.   6. TEDSPED: Concurrent Credential Program in Multiple Subject and Special Education Allows you to serve as a Classroom Teacher & Special Education Teacher. Complete Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in four quarters and continue two additional quarters to complete a Special Education Credential. Special Education disability areas: Mild to Moderate or Moderate to Severe Total: 6 quarters program. You must complete both programs in order to earn both credentials.

Credential Objective: Single Subject-Standard Subject Areas available through CSUEB Elementary School subjects: PE; Art; Music; Science Middle/High School subjects: • Art • English • Foreign Languages • Music • Social Science • Science, includes: General, Integrated, and Introductory levels through advanced • Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or Physics • Specialized Science, does not include: General, Integrated, or Introductory levels • Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or Physics • Foundational-Level Science, includes: General, Integrated, and Introductory levels only • Physical Education • Mathematics – All Areas • Foundational-Level Mathematics, includes: General Math Consumer Math Algebra Geometry Probability Statistics No Advanced Placement Math (Trigonometry; Calculus)

Application Packet Requirements – Postmarked to Credentials Office by the Department Admissions Deadline • University Admissions Application (must be sent online at www.csumentor.edu) • Department Admissions Application (must be sent online at www.csueastbay.edu/cssc) • Admissions Checklist Form (signed and dated) • Printout of confirmation page from University application • Transcripts from all schools attended ● Must include Bachelor Degree-bearing transcript and all transfer courses even if courses appear on another institution’s transcript; overall undergraduate GPA of 2.67 or GPA of 2.75 in last 60-semester or 90-quarter units of baccalaureate work ● 2 Official Copies: Sealed (Privacy Legislation) ● Send to Self ● Submit with Packet • Statement of Purpose • Prior-Experience Verification Form and Two Letters of Recommendation

More Information About Subject Matter Competency Multiple Subject: CSET Exam Single Subject: CSET or Coursework Evaluation CSET: CA Subject Examination for Teachers (Fingerprint Identification Required of Test Takers) Important Reminders: • CSET scores expire after five years. • Be sure to list California State University, East Bay to receive your results. • The candidate is solely responsible if the incorrect exam is taken. • Send a copy of the front/back of your official candidate passing score report as part of the admissions process. Email copies are not official.

  13. CSET and CBEST Exam Deadlines for Admissions All exams must be fully passed. Please note that official documentation of passing status must be received by the Document Deadline. CTC Examination Website: www.ctcexams.nesinc.com

  14. Additional Information about U.S. Constitution Requirement U. S. Constitution Option A: Authorized Course • Most graduates of the CSU system have completed a course. • Check with CSSC for authorized courses. Option B: Authorized Exam • Register to take a U. S. Constitution Exam at a local venue. • Study the exam preparation guide provided by the testing agency. -CSUEB Testing Services -Alameda or Contra Costa Office of Education -Other colleges: Notre Dame De Namur

Examples of Ways to Satisfy Pre-Admissions Experience • Work/ Volunteer at a school: classroom assistant; paraeducator. • Become a substitute teacher. • Volunteer as a docent-educator at a museum, park, exhibit, etc. • Volunteer at a recreation department. • Work in an after-school program or summer-camp. • Serve as a tutor in a supervised environment. • (faith-based instruction excluded). Reminders • Letters of Recommendation & Experience Verification Form are Related • Last day to submit verification is on your interview date.

  16. Additional Information about Pre-Admissions Experience with Youth • 45 hours within the last 3 years. (15 of the 45 hours must be in a public school venue within the last 2 years) • Elementary School (Multiple Subject): Children ages 5 through 11 • Middle & High School (Single Subject): Adolescents ages 12 through 17

  17. Statement of Purpose One 300 – 500 Word Essay: (Typed and double spaced) • Why do you want to work with groups of children between the ages of 5 – 11 or adolescents between the ages of 12 – 17? B. How does your background and/or experience inform your decision to pursue a license that authorizes one to work with socially, culturally, and economically diverse groups of children in the State of California?

  18. The Interview Interview Details & Deadlines Interview Period: 1 – 4 weeks after application deadline. Applicants are notified to reserve an interview time slot. Prior-Admission Experience will be discussed. REQUIRED Documents ALL letters of recommendations and verifications forms must be submitted at or before the time of the interview.

Submit Final Verification of ALL Requirements by 5:00 pm Deadline SUMMER Final Verification: April 30, 2010 • Completed Bachelor’s Degree Verification • Basic Skills Requirement • Subject Matter Competency • U.S. Constitution Requirement • Criminal History Clearance Certificate • Negative TB Test Report • Immunization Form – shows MMR Vaccination (measles, mumps, rubella) – Submit to Student Health Center.   20. Adding Authorization to an Existing Credential Extra Credential Option: All candidates attend a full presentation at the end of their credential program. Add Introductory & Specific Subject Matter Authorizations; Add S.S. or M.S. Authorizations to credential. Visit the California Commissions on Teacher Credentialing (CTC): www.ctc.ca.gov
