  3. Rules Singular Nouns Singular Possessive Nouns • Names one person, place, thing, or idea, • Shows that one person, place, or thing has or owns something.

  4. Rules • To make a singular noun show possession you just add an apostrophe and an “s” (‘s). • The fur of the dog • The dog’s fur • The collar that the pet has • The pet’s collar.

  5. Rules • Using possessive nouns is shorter and better than other ways of showing possession. • The dog belonging to Joel is barking. • Joel’s dog is barking. • The toy belonging to Alice is broken. • Alice’s toy is broken.

  6. What is the possessive form of the underlined singular noun? • The tail of the fox. • The fox’s tail. • The pet that the child has. • The child’s pet. • The name of the poodle. • The poodle’s name. • The dog that Alex has. • Alex’s dog.
