  1. Simplicity: This slide is a screenshot of an Instant Messaging page (AIM). By using a simple screen-shot, the audience can see what this application looks like. IM

  2. Clarity: This shows very clearly how a person would use a headset and microphone to create a podcast. It helps provide background knowledge so that when the learners begin to create their own podcasts, they’ll have a sense of how this works.

  3. Balance: This demonstrates balance by showing two pages from a manual that the students will use. It demonstrates “Formal Balance.”

  4. Harmony: This demonstrates harmony by having the two identical images side by side. There are some subtle difference between the images, but this is a harmonious set-up.

  5. Organization: This slide with graphics demonstrates organization through the use of the arrows. Advice for Parents • Educate yourself using free resources • Centralize location of computers • Monitor your child’s use • Install filtering software • Establish ground rules and age-appropriate consequences

  6. Emphasis: This graphic shows emphasis through the use of the people “driving” computers, using the analogy of the “Information SuperHighway.” How Safe Are You on the Information SuperHighway?

  7. Legibility is demonstrated through the light text on a dark background. Chat Rooms • Chat rooms are virtual rooms where people from anywhere in the world can exchange information and ideas • People type messages back and forth to someone else with instant responses • People log into a chat room and see what others are saying • You can’t see them and you don’t know who they are

  8. Unity: Note the icons on the right side of the visual are presented in a unified way. 9. Perspective is demonstrated through the image of the computers on a highway coming towards the viewer. How Safe Are You on the Information SuperHighway?

  10. Point of View: This demonstrates point of view by showing the viewer what type of a screen they might be looking at in this specific situation. IM

  11. Framing: The visual frame the opening slide by having information at the top and the lower right side, with the graphic on the lower left side. Safety on the Information Highway Presented by Sean Sharp
