What is ATLAB? • ATLAB (ATLAS Technology Lab) is a centralized platform or interface to facilitate technology exchange with external (industrial) partners outside the Collaboration, across different ATLAS Upgrades and R&D projects, by obtaining complementary funding, e.g. from the EU • ATLAB offers external partners an integrated test environment for new technology products and ideas • ATLAB has methods to scan the market potential for new concepts and ideas • ATLAB is a technology-market meeting point (show-case) • There is no fee to join ATLAB

So Why Are We Here Today? • To meet & mix with all ATLAB partners (TALENT, EDUSAFE) • To get a briefing about ATLAS Upgrade activities (so-called Phases 1 and 2, focus on Phase 2) • Phase 1 (www.cern.ch/nordberg/Upgrade1.pdf) • Phase 2 (to be submitted to LHCC) • To hear news about ATLAB • To get input how to develop ATLAB further

ATLAB News • ATLAB has submitted two new proposals to EU • EPITOME (3D sensor developments) • NEURONS (pattern recognition technologies) • ATLAB is setting up its web site • looking for a building for hosting its activities (with the help from CERN) • ATLAB is exploring ways how its partners could get additional benefits (value) from the (EU) projects, ie. beyond what is set as goals in the CA’s • All your input will be sought!!
