  3. What’s the plan? • Over the next four school years, all district students in grades 3-12 will receive devices • Fall 2014: Middle schools • Fall 2015: High schools • Fall 2016: 5th grade • Fall 2017: 3rd and 4th

  4. What has happened so far? Building on successes • Alki and McLoughlin well underway with iPads • Many lessons learned, both in the classroom and beyond • Next round of schools benefit from their growing expertise

  12. What Do I Need to Know Now? Frequently Asked Questions • Will students take the iPads home? Yes • What else will students get with their iPad? Plug, charging cord, required case • What apps will be on the iPad? Student iPads will be pre-loaded with educational apps selected by teachers and district technology specialists.

  13. What Do I Need to Know Now? Frequently Asked Questions • Can students or parents load their own apps on the iPads? No. Syncing to other computers or accounts will be disabled. • Is Wi-Fi necessary to use iPads at home? No. If parents wish to allow access to home Wi-Fi network, they can do so. • Is the Internet filtered on the iPads? Yes, both at school and at home.

  14. What Do I Need to Know Now? Frequently Asked Questions • When will students be able to use iPads at school? Students should bring their iPad charged to school every day. Teachers & administrators will decide when and where iPads can be used during the school day.

Frequently Asked Questions • What happens if students use their iPads inappropriately? • Progressive discipline applies for any inappropriate use of the iPad • Students may be fined $5 for tampering with the iPad settings • Students may have additional restrictions applied to their iPads

  16. What Do I Need to Know Now? Frequently Asked Questions • Can students bring in their own iPad instead of a district one? No. Success of the 1:1 project is based on students having the same device, apps and functionality. Some apps require access to internal networks not available on the BYOD network.

  17. What Do I Need to Know Now? Frequently Asked Questions • Can I sign paperwork or pay for Assurance program now? After June 1, parents can sign and submit forms for the coming school year. If interested, they can pay for Assurance for the following year as well.

Technology Use rules: • Must be signed by both student and parent/guardian • Return to school Business Office with both signatures. • Assurance Form: • Must be signed by parent/guardian • Return the signed form and money to Business Office • If opting out of Assurance, you must still return the signed form.
