Presentation Theme: Basics of Project Management Planning Presented by: Denver Rangiah Monitoring & Reporting specialist, IDIP Objectives: 1) To enhance knowledge regarding infrastructure development 2) To enhance understanding regarding the alignment of the infrastructure delivery cycle with the budget cycle and strategic planning cycle

Participants’ Learning (1) • Planning, Supporting infrastructure and variations • Planning in advance and within budgeted amount; Moving funds within projects; Plan to fit budget, not other way around • Importance of project planning, costing and IPIP and IPMP • Alignment of planning and budgeting • Project planning steps; Triple constraints • Importance of proper planning and having plans captured in proper formats • Variations; Planning projects way ahead of time • Public works and Provincial Treasuries also need to attend this type of sessions • Planning should inform budget, not other way around; Detailed planning can form the basis for future similar projects • The importance of early project planning and costing; Knowledge on the triple constraints; Importance of quality, time and cost • Conditional Grant projects to be planned well in advance

Participants’ Learning (2) • Project management as a whole • Importance of proper planning and managing projects well • Planning not to be done in isolation • To think and plan to be successful with the delivery of projects • Proper planning of projects • Knowing what you want your implementing agent to deliver in terms of responsibilities during planning and before signing agreement which will assist on the project implementation and project control • Proper project management planning • The CIDB has an IDM model which is extremely useful in my new responsibilities • Importance of early planning crucial; Important to manage cash flows • Importance of managing cash flow according to multiple financial years budgeting and how the cash flow is broken down according to projects and total project budget • Project planning and the importance thereof
