Bagpipes • A bagpipe is a musical instrument that is made out of a large bag with a constant flow of air going through it, and a piece to blow into. • There are many different types of bagpipes • Great Highland bagpipes, Irish Uilleann bagpipes, Northumbrian bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, Biniou, Center-France bagpipes, and Gaita are the seven types of bagpipes. • Many Scottish people enjoy listening to and playing the bagpipes. • Many people in Manitoba enjoy doing the same.

The York Factory • The York Factory was a settlement and trading post at Fort Garry. • It is located on the southwestern shore of the Hudson Bay in northeastern Manitoba. • It was founded in 1648. • Continued to operate as a fur trade post for over 270 years until 1957 when it was closed down by the company

  7. The Columbia Icefield • One of the largest accumulations of snow and ice in the Arctic Circle. • It is approximately 202 miles and can reach depths of 2,000 ft. • This accumulation helps maintain 8 important glaciers. • The melted water or run-off from the accumulation runs into stream and rivers that eventually lead to the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. • This trip offers a ride on a specially designed vehicle for driving on ice or the Ice Explorer. You also get the chance to leave the vehicle and walk around on the ice.

  8. Fun fact- • This ice was formed by snow that fell 400 years ago. • This trip offers scenic views of the various glaciers and the surrounding area of Alberta. This is an educational and fun experience. You learn how glaciers were formed and you can take the wonderful sights that Alberta has to offer.

Chateau Lake Louise • This area hosts beautiful and scenic views of Lake Louise and the glaciers. • Features of this area and hotel: • Hiking and skiing • Canoeing and backcountry camping • A scenic pathway along the perimeter of the lake • Fun fact- • Lake Louise is named the Jewel of the Canadian Rockies • Why?- The reflection of the sun on the lake casts and emerald glow

  10. Lake Louise was originally named after Princess Louise Carolina Alberta- who was the daughter of Queen Victoria
