  3. Agenda for the First Week • Day 1 - Meet with your teacher - Go over expectations -Receive parent letter to get signed and return by end of the week • Day 2 – Dress for participation - Activities will include the following: Icebreakers, day one of activity, fitness testing

  4. Rules and ExpectationsToday we will cover: • Dress for Success • Locks & Lockers • Locker rooms • Grading • Activity Requirements

  5. Physical Education Dress Policy • A change of clothes for Phy Ed IS : • REQUIRED • A SAFETY issue • A PERSONAL HYGIENE issue - MRSA - Body odor

Physical Education Dress Policy • T-Shirt is required • Must be school appropriate per Student Planner (pg. 24) • Gray Phy Ed uniform recommended • Athletic shorts or sweatpants • Street clothes or clothing worn to school are not permitted (that includes Apple Bottom Jeans and the boots with the fur)

  9. Locks and Lockers • Blue combination lock from school store - $5.50 • Lock gear in SMALL LOCKERS • Use BIG LOCKERS during your class ONLY • Locks left on BIG lockers when class is over, may and WILL be cut off • Register your LOCK and LOCKER with your PE teacher

Locker Rooms - General • PE locker rooms are locked at the END of each day at 3:20 • Phy Ed teachers will not open locker rooms (including varsity locker rooms) - be responsible, plan ahead • Varsity/athletic locker rooms are NOT open during the day • Restrooms - students needing to use the facilities, obtain a pass to use restrooms in the COMMONS, not locker rooms • Varsity locker rooms for the In-season Sport Only

  11. Locker room - Common Sense • Lock your lockers! Remember the combo. • Lock your stuff up…we lock the doors, but you should lock up your valuables OR leave them somewhere else. • Please keep all Backpacks or personal items out of the physical education class • Cell phones or personal electronic devices were off and put away when entering school, KEEP it that way in physical education class (pg. 23, 33-34, cell phone/electronics policy)

Getting to Locker Rooms • You have 5 minutes to get from your previous class to the locker room • If you do not make it in time the locker room will already be locked and you will not be allowed to change that day • You will have 5 minutes to change in the locker room and move to your gym location • The locker room will be locked during the class period

Getting to the gym • When locker room doors are locked you will not be allowed to change • YOU ARE TARDY - speed it up! • If you are not dressed for class and you are tardy but you participate….consequences according to your individual Teacher • If you are not dressed for class and you are tardy AND you do not participate….you get zero (0) points

  14. Waiting for Class • Please wait for your class in the hallways for Field house by section 4 (away from tool carts) and weight room hallway for small gym • PE Teacher will let your class into the field house by these doors only. Please go to your assigned teachers area and wait (without touching any equipment, please).

  15. After class • Lock up your locker • Keep locker room CLEAN • Take your lock off the big lockers • STAY IN LOCKER ROOM until dismissed - BEHIND YELLOW LINE

  16. Grading • Each day is worth 10 points • Grade to include: Respect/Responsibility (tardy, dress, behavior) Attendance Performance Assessments Assignments YOUR PE Teacher will provide you with specific details of their grading procedures (you need to pass Phy Ed to graduate)

  17. Students Are Expected To: • Speak appropriately to staff and other students • Treat equipment properly and as directed by the teacher • Listen and follow directions during class instruction • Refrain from horseplay and inappropriate behavior

  18. Students will also: • Aid in the prevention of escalated disagreements • Participate in a safe and respectful manner • Exhibit all aspects of sportsmanship • We are all different - live with it!

  19. Respect Your Building • Keep food, candy, gum, beverages, glass containers, and aerosol spray cans out of the locker rooms and out of class. • Show respect to the facilities, yourself and those around you…..pick up after yourself.

  20. Absences • Simply stated: You need to be PHYSICALLY present and physically active to get a Physical Education grade. • Unexcused absence/truant no make-up opportunity • Excused absence - 2 days allowed to make contact with individual teacher for make-up assignment (NEW policy on next slide) • Excused absence day MUST be made up in one (1) week from absent date • Days missed for school activities DO NOT need to be made up (field trips, athletics, etc)

Phy Ed Make-up policy • Students can make up a class by: • attending the weight room for 30 minutes before or after school, obtaining a signature by supervising teacher. • participate in a fitness related activity outside of school, including practice, for a minimum of 30 minutes. Must have a signature from supervisor or parent. • Write a one (1) page, 12 font, paper on the activity they are currently involved in for Physical Education. • Student excused for family vacation may keep a fitness journal during that time frame of their activities. Must be signed by a parent.

Physical Education Make up Policy • Circle Teacher: Mr. Sagen, Mr. Stokes, Mr. Guyette, Mr. Winkler, • Mrs Schneider, Mrs. McCauley • Student is absent from school – they do not earn the 10pts for the day. School related absences are excused. • Student has 2 days upon return to let their teacher know how they will make up the missed day. • Student will have 1 week to complete the make – up. • Student can make up a class by: • *attending the weight room for 30 minutes before or after school, obtaining a signature by supervising teacher. • *student can do a fitness activity outside of school, including practice, for a minimum of 30 minutes. Must have a signature from supervisor or parent. • *student may write a 1 pg, 12 font, double spaced paper on the activity they are currently involved in for Physical Education. List your source. • *student excused from school for a vacation may keep a fitness log during that time frame of their activities.   23. Medical • If sick/injured for 3 weeks consecutively or more - student may be reassigned to a study hall. • A doctor’s note is required after THREE days of non-participation due to illness

  24. Student Participation • Students are EXPECTED to fully participate in the assigned activities each class period • Students MUST be properly dressed to participate

  25. Have FUN and be HEALTHY!
