  3. MILMI concept Joint Master study program in Lasers, Materials science and Interactions between US and EU leading institutions. Double degree and Graduate program toward PhD. • Transatlantic degree project – 2008/2012 • (extension until 2013) Funding: Atlantis programme(US/EU cooperation) US: Department of Education / FISPE EU: Education and culture DG / EACEA Master MILMI

Goals & target group • A research oriented master at the crossroad between • Physics: optics, laser and interaction • Chemistry : material science • Goal: Educate and train students for research in this field and open their way to R&D in an international environment (through PhD under cotutelle) • Target group: Undergraduate students targeting a R&D career. Master MILMI

Learning outcomes • Technical skills • Mix skills and knowledge at the highest level in Physics and Chemistry, in order to foster research and development. • Ease students evolution in different research environments • Mobility is a good pathway to PhD in cotutelle. • Interpersonal skills • Individual skills in an International landscape • Team working • Sense of responsibility • mastering entrepreneurship attitude. Structure of MILMI Pathway: • 1st year master at home university • 2nd year master transatlantic mobility • + summer school in Europe (1st one in Bordeaux - 2010) 2 study tracks, 3 mobility schemes • Physics: Optics/photonics and lasers • Bordeaux1/University of Central Florida • FSU/University of Central Florida • Chemistry: Materials science for Photonic applications • Clemson University/Bordeaux1 Double Degree Master MILMI

Atlantisfunding • Mobility grants / stipend for students • 12.000€ for EU students / 12.000$ for US students • per year (transatlantic mobility) • Mobility grants for instructors • 1 to 8 weeks mobility to teach or start collaborations • Administrative support • Technical secretariat (on both sides) • Consortium meetings and conferences (project’s director and related meetings) • Organization of the summer school • Communication… Master MILMI
