  1. JOHN WAYNE GACY By: Rina Mendoza

  2. Background: • Birth: March 17, 1942 • Death: May 10, 1994 • Was born in Chicago, Illinois • Had two other siblings • Overweight as child • Victim of child abuse. Never had his father’s love • At 9 years old Gacy was molested by a male family friend • Confessed to have raped and killed at least 33 teenage boys

  3. Education • High school drop out • Northwestern Business College Graduate • Later on received High School diploma when incarcerated

  4. Job/Career • At the age of 18 John Wayne Gacy was working as an assistance precinct captain for a Democratic Party candidate • Later on became an member of the Democratic Party himself • For a short period of time Gacy was a mortuary attendant (observed morticians embedding dead bodies) • One night John climbed into a coffin with a dead teenage boy and embraced and caressed him • Years later he became vice-president of the Springfield Jaycee

  5. First Offenses • In 1968, John Wayne Gacy was arrested and charged with oral sodomy in relation to Donald Voorhees and attempted assault of Edward Lync • Gacy hired a different teenage boy to physically assault Donald to scare him into not testifying

  6. Imprisonment • December 3, 1968 Gacy was sentenced to prison for 10 years of sodomy at the Anamosa State Penitentiary (wife filed for divorce and he never saw his 2 kids again) • John Wayne Gacy was released in 1970 with parole serving 18 months of a 10 years sentence • He was convicted of 33 murders and sentenced to death for 12 of these killings. He was executed in May 1994.

  7. Evidence • Gacy was under surveillance constantly • Had multiple search warrants on his house and cars • Confessed to the killings

  8. Behavior Theory? • I feel that John Wayne Gacy is associated with Differential Association Theory because he grew up with an abusive father and was bullied in school, and learned early violent behavior from that. And to top it all off, he was raped but a person that was supposed to be trusted and learned behavior from getting molested. • Gacy deserves nothing but punishment. For the short period of time he was in jail he took the courses he needed to complete high school and helped with kitchen duties keeping himself busy and when he was released from prison he went on a vast killing spree. Nothing was going to change Gacy’s behavior which is why he was put in death row.

  9. Quotes and Nicknames • “You know…clowns can get away with murder.” • "The only thing they can get me for is running a funeral parlor without a license." • “Pogo the Clown” • “Killer Clown” • “The Fat Man”
