  1. Vocabulary for Algebra 1 second semester

  2. Semester Plan You need one to two pieces of paper out. Place your name at the top of the paper and title according the listing below of the day. • Tuesday : Chapter 8 Exponents #1-12 • Wednesday: Chapter 9 Polynomials #1-10 • Thursday: Chapter 9 Polynomials #11-20 • Friday: Chapter 10 Quadratic #1-9

  3. Chapter 9 • Monomial • Degree of a monomial • Polynomial • Terms • Degree of a polynomial • Coefficient • Leading Coefficient • Binomial • Trinomial • Coincide • FOIL Method • Zero-Product Property • Roots • Vertical Motion Model • Zero of a function • Greatest Common Factor • Factorization • Perfect Square Trinomial • Factor by Grouping • Factor Completely

  4. FOIL Method • The process of apply the distributive property for multiplying binomials. First, Outer, Inner, Last

  5. Zero-Product Property • This property is used to solve an equation when one side is zero and the other is a product of polynomials factors.

  6. Roots • Are the solutions of an equation when using zero-product property to solve. Also know as: solutions, x-intercepts, and zeros

  7. Vertical Motion Model • The height h (in feet) of a projectile can be modeled by h = -16t2 + vt + s where t is the time(in seconds) and v is the initial vertical velocity(in feet per second).

  8. Zero of a function • Is an x-value for which f(x) = 0 (or y = 0). Also known as the x-intercept of the function’s graph.

  9. Greatest Common Factor • Is a monomial with an integer coefficient that divides evenly into each term.

  10. Factorization • Is the process of breaking down a polynomial into its terms that when multiplied will result in the original polynomial.

  11. Perfect Square Trinomial • The pattern for finding the square of a binomial gives you the pattern for factoring trinomials of the form a2 +2ab + b2 or a2 – 2ab + b2

  12. Factor by grouping • Use the distributive property to factor polynomials with four terms. Factor a common monomial from pairs of terms first, then look for a common binomial factor.

  13. Factor Completely • Is a factorable polynomial with integer coefficient and written as a product of unfactorable polynomials with integer coefficients.

  14. Turn in to the teacher • Please staple if necessary.
