  2. Melvil Dewey Melvil Dewey was born December 10, 1851. When he grew up, he became a librarian. But things were different then. The shelves were different. Melvil changed all that! How? Simply by dividing the world!!

  4. Psychology & Philosophy • “Who Am I?” Books that are about human feelings and emotions, and about the human mind will be found here. Witches I Feel Mad! Ghosts How My Brain Works

  5. Religion • Creation stories are found here. “Where did we come from?” This includes Mythology, too. Christianity Noah's Ark Judaism Islam Greek Myths Roman Mythology

  6. Social Sciences • Call this the “Culture” section! Find stories and books about how our society works, how our government functions, and what laws and traditions we have here. Holidays Fairy Tales In The Army

  7. Languages • Dictionaries of any kind go here. • Books that help you to learn ANY language can be found in this section. Sign Language Speaking German! Hand Signs Webster's Dictionary

  8. Nature • This section can be called “Science,” “Science and Nature,” or even “Natural Sciences.” Think living things in our world. Planets Wild Animals Math Minerals Oceans Weather

  9. Technology • You can also refer to this section as “Changed Nature” or “Changed Science.” This includes changes to humans. Vehicles Pets Teeth Human Body Eyes Computers Making Video Games

  10. Arts & Recreation • “Sports & Leisure” would also be a good name. How about “Things You Do In Your Spare Time?” • “ Crafts Cheerleading Skateboarding Soccer Drawing Jump Rope Jokes Music

  11. Literature • ALL books are literature, but this section is for writings that aren’t informational. • Any and all fiction books COULD go here! Short Stories Poetry Plays

  19. Social Sciences • 300s – “Who is the guy in the next cave?” (Man thinks about other people)

  20. Languages • 400s – “How can I make that guy understand me?” (Man learns to communicate with others through words)

  21. Nature • 500s – “How can I understand nature and the world around me?” (Man learns to understand nature on land, in the sea, and in the sky)

  22. Technology • 600s – “How can I use what I know about nature?” (Man through the ages learned about fire, weapons, medicine, farming, cooking, building, and how to make all things we need)

  23. Arts & Recreation • 700s – “How can I enjoy my new leisure time?” (With more time to spare, man learned to paint, create music, dance, and play!)

  24. Literature • 800s – “How can I give my children a record of man’s heroic deeds?” (Man became a storyteller and poet, then put those ideas in writing.)

  25. History & Geography • 900s – “How can I leave a record for men of the future?” (Man began to write about events that had already occurred, and the people who had been there)

  26. General Knowledge • 000s – “Where would I put a scrapbook of all things I have learned?” (Man learns to categorize subjects)
