UPDATE FROM RECENT ECCD WG EVENTS • RENCP ECCD WG quarterly meeting and Learning Lab conducted on 11th June with a focus on: • Sharing key ECD/ECE updates at national level • Sharing experience on sustainability of our ECD interventions at community level; • Progress on the Advocacy Strategy development • Plan next exchange visits and quarterly meeting • Key outcomes from the meeting and Learning Lab: • Exchange visit to learn from ACTION AID experience in Karongi District on 9th July and TEACH RWANDA in Muhanga District on 17th September. • Finalize the ECD WG Advocacy Strategy by end June to implement it starting with the new fiscal year (2014-2015) • Capitalize on children participation in our programmes as they have revealed to be key parents’ mobilizers able to input in sustainability of our interventions. • Next WG meeting planned on 3rd September.

UPDATE FROM RECENT ECCD WG EVENTS (Cnt’d) • ECCD WG exchange visit conducted to IMBUTO Foundation Early Childhood Development and Family center (ECD-F) in Kayonza on April 1st 2014. • Visit the facilities of the center which are very clean with enough play space: 2 stimulation rooms, dining, resting room, good washrooms stores and kitchen garden. • Interact with the centre management and staff. • Key learning: • Provision of services to children aged 0-6 and their parents in turns: • 4 to 6 every morning from Monday to Thursday • 2 to 3 with their parents twice a week in the afternoon • Home visits on every Friday afternoon • Establishment of men’s day to mobilize their increased participation. • High involvement of parents and local leaders. UPDATES FROM NATIONAL LEVEL ECCD DEVELOPMENTS • Establishment of a technical working group on Early Childhood Education (ECE) at National level under REB to input in the design of mechanisms for implementation of the school readiness 1 year pre-school education. ECD WG members participated in meetings to discuss ToRsof the WG (15th May)and a workshop on a quick situation analysis for ECE (28th May) co-chaired by REB and UNICEF. • Curriculum Review process going on with involvement of ECD WG representatives (UNICEF, Wellspring Foundation) in the review of pre-school education curriculum. Workshops for curriculum review are organized by REB in partnership with UNICEF and facilitated by consultants from CfBT and COSTER.A one week workshop that will involve more participants from ECD WG is scheduled by REB from 16th to 23rd June in Musanze.

  5. UPDATES FROM NATIONAL LEVEL ECCD DEVELOPMENTS (Cnt’d) • ECD WG member organization provided inputs in the Education for All (EFA) review process conducted by MINEDUC. Inputs were provided through meetings and assessment sessions facilitated by assigned consultants with regard to EFA goal 1: expanding and improving comprehensive early childhood care and education, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. • ECD WG advocacy issue formulated and submitted to RENCP representatives for presentation in the Education Development Partners meeting as well as the ESWG Cluster meeting. • The issue presented for ECD WG: Follow-up progress on implementation of the recommendations of the ECD Stakeholders’ meeting held in April 2012 on ECD coordination mechanisms with emphasis on establishment of a National ECD Secretariat.
